Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on.

Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning
Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect.

Rep. Steven Horsford to Greer: "So the trade representative hasn't spoken to the POTUS about a global reordering of trade, but yet he announced it on a tweet? WTF! Who is in charge? It looks like your boss just pulled the rug out from under you. There is no strategy ... is this market manipulation?"

🚨So, why are uninhabited islands tariffed?

A: The White House is even more stupid than you thought.

Tariffs have been done by internet domains, not by country!

So Heard & McDonald Islands (.hm) has a different domain to Australia (.au). So the penguins are considered a separate trading nation. 🤯

@carlowweather.bsky.social Hi Alan, thanks as always for the updates. Delighted to be in the sunshine with power back already here.
Quick question, any imminent storms that would delay reassembling the trampoline? Thanks!

Brilliant use of vacant office space in NYC:

Two empty floors of 307 W. 38th St have come back to life as new home of the famed Paul Taylor Dance Company. With beautiful studios, classrooms and rehearsal space.

A win for dance. A win for NYC. Thrilled to join today’s ribbon cutting.

I ❤️ how these are always the perfect amount of shade
Word of the day is ‘pavonise’ (19th century): to strut about like a peacock, all puffed up with conceit.

Amazing thread!
Just for fun, let me tell you about somebody you've probably never heard of, but who was once one of the most famous people in England, a national hero, a disgraced fraudster, and an astonishingly accomplished piratical maniac.

He led quite a life. (1/53)

Have you any recommendations for a 10 year old boy who already loves reading that are new or we may have missed? He’s less keen on scary/thriller style but doesn’t have to be ‘boy only’. Certainly nothing by a football player! Thanks ☺️

I love an Irish General election. You can keep Jake Tapper striding through a VR map like a Colossus. I don't want Wolf Blitzer using a touchscreen to show voter turnout.
Give me a frazzled RTE reporter coming live from a playschool in Offaly watching votes being added with a pencil for two weeks.

Will be interesting to see if we see similar positives on behaviour here too. Anyone know more?
In the least surprising news of the day, it turns out that guaranteeing primary school pupils a free hot meal every weekday at a time when an average of one kid in every London classroom is now living in temporary housing has many positive benefits.

‘Significant benefits’ of universal free school meals, report finds
As well as alleviating cost of living pressures the policy also appears to have boosted pupil behaviour
