The work will always matter, especially now when the risk of doing nothing is palpably real.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

"Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia" should be how Democrats begin every single comment to reporters these days.

Ruben Gallego on whether Trump is talking to Democrats:

“Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia, so I think there's a he's probably talking to himself, or think he's talking to a Democrat, but I sincerely doubt that that's actually he's actually physically talking to a Democrat.“

Everything they are doing & saying right now is very obviously meant to clear the way for mass repressive violence.

Fact checking is not going to do shit.

Talking about kitchen table issues is not going to do shit.

We need open, unapologetic defiance & conflict.

Offsets can't cut carbon *even in theory*

The whole point of offsets is to create permission to *not* cut carbon.

So when they don't even live up to their own standard, they are so much worse.

The Trump administration lobbied Wednesday evening for a freeze of Washington D.C.’s attempt to eject a couple thousand National Guard from the district.

this is a very very big story because of the apparently totally fake story ICE/DHS put out about what happened.

In addition to being a sign of terrible political instincts, this is also a sign that Hakeem Jeffries cannot think a single step ahead. Trump will 100% send troops to NYC, either as soon as Mamdani is elected in November or when he takes office in January. Unity among NYC Dems is going to matter.

Hanging out with my Dad who's watching MSNBC. I just saw Hakeem Jeffries, my fellow law school alumm fail yet again to endorse Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for NYC Mayor. And then he shanked a direct question about whether he will *vote* for him. Incredible. This is unacceptable.

It's a pretty big deal that the NYC Bar Association--one of the most prominent and respected bar associations in the country--is accusing the President of ordering the "unlawful summary execution," i.e. murder--of civilians in violation of US and international law. www.nycbar.org/press-releas...

Back online! The 5th National Climate Assessment, which was released by the US Global Change Research Program in 2023 (and taken offline by the Trump administration in early 2025) is back. The assessment is the most recent state of the science report on climate change impacts and risks to the US.

Installing someone like Bari Weiss as the head of a major news organization isn’t even about profit or longevity. In effect it’s about continuing to shrink the traditional news industry smaller and smaller and weaker and weaker and less and less journalism based until it ceases to exist

New analysis from @jeremysymons.bsky.social: Electricity bills are going up across Virginia because the Commonwealth has tripled its dependency on natural gas for electricity over the past decade. Without intervention from regulators, consumers are left at the mercy of big gas and tech companies.
Virginia's Energy Crossroads - Center for Energy and Environmental Analysis
By 2040, electric and gas bills for a typical Virginia household could go up by $1,115 annually above inflation due to a collision of inflationary trends, including the rapidly rising price of natural...

I don't know where this revisionism has come from about the suffragettes - people saying "if the suffragettes were around today, they'd be considered terrorists."

The suffragettes were arrested and tortured, sexually assaulted and beaten by the state. They *were* considered terrorists!

As far as normalization efforts go, it’s hard to top Axios’ repeated framing of Trump’s actions as “accelerating a trend.”

Maybe conservative “ideas” deserve to be belittled.
jswatz.bsky.social
“No self-respecting university could ever accept something like this,” said Lee Bollinger, a First Amendment scholar and former Columbia University president. “Trying to protect conservative ideas against being ‘belittled’ — that’s about as violative of the First Amendment interests as you can get.”
Colleges weigh whether to sign onto Trump plan or forgo federal benefits
A new proposal from the Trump administration would give colleges funding advantages if they adopt conservative priorities.

A wonderfully cogent piece by @elienyc.bsky.social that does a great job explaining in plain English why Thomas' approach to jurisprudence isn't just casual partisan hackery but an existential threat to the foundations of how the SC is supposed to function. www.thenation.com/article/soci...
