i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

As alarmed as people may be, they aren't alarmed enough. Trump just escalated this crisis from a fight between the federal government and a state, to a situation where one state is deploying armed forces to impose its will on another state. www.thebulwark.com/p/emergency-...

We aren’t at the worst-case scenario yet. But if you squint, you can see it looming out there, just over the horizon.

In the best of all possible worlds, society would be organized in a way that encouraged ecological sustainabilty, multidisciplinary education, consensus based government and long term big picture thinking. It's truly tragic that is the opposite of what we have

Growing up Mormon, not wealthy, rural, I had a lot of the indicators for trending towards this nihilistic shit, I was fortunate to receive sufficient encouragement socially to keep from sinking into the vortex of white male rage, it's such a shame how widespread this mental illness has become

The way I was preserved from this subculture by preferring books to computers, I know I'm a dinosaur but this damn vortex has been devouring the souls of dudes for a long time
Repeating for billionth time, we have a white Christian male problem in this country.

The system is designed for capitalism to do whatever it needs, including wars, colonialism, authoritarianism, and the impediment of democracy.
If you want something different it is going to have to change and we’re going to have to change it.

People spend a lot of time wondering why the left is worse at using independent media to control the national narrative.
A useful exercise is to ask why the left is also worse at selling snake oil and pyramid schemes, because I think the reasons are basically exactly the same.

It's awful but at this point I look forward to wet bulb temperatures in major cities with blackouts and famine and the atmosphere evaporating to snuff out life on Earth.. Maybe if we hit reset fast enough some kernel of potential can be preserved for the crabs of the future

I just want people to look around and notice that politicians and pundits are accepting crazy ideas like taking over Canada and building concentration camps for immigrants and people on medication and debating them.
The problem isn’t just Trump. He’s a symptom of a larger disease.

The takeover of Twitter was a preview of what we're all living with now and a stark example of why you can't let any one person have too much money: they go insane and make themselves everybody's problem
