The UAE is an authoritarian autocracy, a petro-state with no income tax for citizens, to bribe them for the lack of democratic voice or free speech

It is 85% migrant, a segregated society with a ban on integration in principle and practice, few rights, equal opportunities, nor voice for incomers

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

Hello from the Pordenone Silent Film Festival! We loved seeing Japanese paper films projected onto the Teatro Verdi theatre to promote our screening. Props to Phoebe for b-roll of Yoko, Hikaru, & Eric capturing the moment! A big THANK YOU to the Yanai Initiative for supporting our screening here.

Please sign - Bring back Eurostar train services to Kent. - with Eurostar signalling then end of various ferry services, such as Ramsgate/Ostend, it's unbelievable to think it is now more difficult to get across the channel than it was 30 years ago. chng.it/fqVCnKQxdb

Remember it well from the Iraq War years. Authoritarianism is the word. I’m already getting misguidedly nostalgic for Tory incompetence.

On this day in 1936, the East End of London rose up against fascism. The Battle of Cable Street.

A packed East End street in 1936: thousands of anti-fascist residents filling the road and pavements, shopfronts behind them.

BREAKING: Over a thousand people gather in Trafalgar Square to oppose genocide and the Palestine Action ban.

Police have already started arresting peaceful protestors under the Terrorism Act for silently holding signs which say "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action"

Listening to Any Questions on catchup now and @georgemonbiot.bsky.social is absolutely slaying it. Very rare I listen to Radio 4 these days and find my head nodding in agreement.

This one and The Act of Seeing with One's Own Eyes are two Brakhage films I’ve never been able to make it through!

Apparently they've wound up their company, and its £600,000 assets aren't enough to cover the money they took from the government.

Currently mixing my new commentary I did with @blondekwaidan.bsky.social and I must say, if this doesnt get any noms in end of year polls, I'll be most peeved.

I used to show Stan Brakhage's Mothlight as an introduction to the possibilities and definitions of cinema back during my short stint teaching film studies to university students over 10 years ago now. No wonder I didn't last long in the academic industry. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt3n...
