What if I typed 'the girlfriend of one of the founders of antifa' and uploaded a photograph of Simone de Beauvoir?
jayaprakash777.bsky.social
Yes, Corrupted/Noothgrush/Grief are good comparisons.

Their truth will be exposed to the entire world once the hostages are released. For two years they lied, calling it “self-defense” and “rescuing hostages,” while in reality they carried out a cold-blooded genocide against an unarmed people.
leftistlawyer.com
It wasn't the genocide that freed the hostages.

It was a ceasefire deal.

Because the genocide was never about the hostages, no matter how much Netanyahu and his band of fucking fascists claim victory.

It's still Free Palestine, from the river to the sea.

And may the name of Benjamin Netanyahu be erased.

Wonderful.

I also treasure the pragmatic way Wiszawa Szymborska looks at things, her irony, and her care not to tidy up reality with a poetic flourish.

Have you tried the Russians? With the right translator Anna Akhmatova is party unto herself.
The Last Toast
I drink to our ruined house, to the dolor of my life, to our loneliness together; and to you I raise my glass, to lying lips that have betrayed us, to dead-cold, pitiless eyes, and to the hard realities: that the world is brutal and coarse, that God in fact has not saved us.

Poets, the designated Pollyannas of the omnishambles.

(Please assume I am aware this is an excessive generalisation, and I've already read the 1000 most famous poets of all time, and this is not an invitation to talk to me about how wrong I am)

"Thornback Hall" was written after re-reading one of my favorite Shirley Jackson stories, "A Visit," and hopefully reflects her acid humor. "Thornback Hall" contains social awkwardness, anxieties of encroaching middle age, etymology, and a bawdy Restoration-style poem written by yrs truly.
The first page of "Thornback Hall" by LC von Hessen in Cosmic Horror Monthly. A curious kitten stands in the background

I hope the Nobel goes to an elderly poet who we all assumed had died years ago.

I mean, how many times can I reread Larkin?
jayaprakash777.bsky.social
Or maybe there is but no one is telling me about it.

There isn't enough pessimistic poetry. Misanthropic, despairing, nihilistic poetry.

Hint: he's already a war criminal.

👉NEW -- Why Tony Blair governing Gaza would result in more war crimes

by Irfan Chowdhury

Soldiers who served under his command in Iraq got away with sexually assaulting prisoners, in scenes similar to Israel’s torture of Palestinians.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Eight thousand iterations of this discourse later, there is no political utility in calling fascists fat. All you're doing is propping up the brutal hierarchy which lets people like them work up from deniable social torture to state violence.

October, November and December all play havoc with me.

Yes. Call it out for what it is. If that makes people uncomfortable, good. They should be.

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

Not unlike our own regime, though they've had to begrudgingly stick with the rights that prior management gave women in India.
beastoftraal.bsky.social
A regime that treats women as sub-human, without any rights.

Excellent, thoughtful thread, probably more thoughtful than anyone who was involved in creating the show it's about.

I’ve been watching the new Monster: The Ed Gein Story series on Netflix, mostly because I was intrigued by hearing that it traced Gein’s influence on popular horror culture, and how it deals with fictionalizing events is interesting - and to my mind raises difficult questions. SPOILERS AHEAD
jayaprakash777.bsky.social
I've always thought of Ryan Murphy as a basically misanthropic storyteller. Amoral at best. Even though he isn't helming this iteration of Monster, Ian Brennan seems to have that same streak. This is basically exploitation with a budget.
