I think many (all?) of us all want to believe that our motives are more pure and pro-social than they are. Parenthood is not undertaken for the good of society; it is often a selfish task, because the joys of parenthood are well worth the pains.

To me, having kids is at its core a surreal daily experience of my heart walking around outside of and independent of my body: at once painful, terrifying, glorious, and awe-inspiring.

If you want to say that sucks, sure. Sometimes it sucks. It is also the highest honor of my life.

I think the thing with the debate about ‘Pro-Natalism’ is that everyone kind of dances around saying explicitly is that revealed preferences show lots of people think having kids of sort of sucks for the parent but is clearly necessary for society.

I don't call myself a Zionist because "Zionist" has widely diverging definitions depending on who you ask, so the word is essentially meaningless, but I certainly would appreciate it If you didn't declare without evidence that all Zionists, including Jewish Zionists, hate Jews

Y'know, I would really appreciate it if one (1) single person in my children's school district marked them "excused absent" for Yom Kippur. Could be an individual subject/classroom teacher or the registrar - just some acknowledgement, come ON, I sent notes before & after, it always works for illness

Apropos of nothing: have you ever eaten cacao nibs and wondered why the flavor is more rich than the flavor of chocolate?

When cacao is processed into chocolate, it loses some of its top notes. You can largely replace these by adding chocolate extract, a highly underrated ingredient.
