If you have seen folks talking about "Omarchy" or maybe seen a screenshot that looked neat, please be aware that it is an operating system for nazis, by nazis. DHH made a linux distribution with Hyprland, which is a tiling Wayland compositor for bigots, by bigots.

I am sorry if you'd seen some […]

It’s me, stumbling around the kitchen (my ghost install) trying to find the coffee (my ability to write words about networks in this wild year).

Which is to say: Still here, still hammering away on a lot of things. Still don’t know what will happen! […]

While this solves our problems, we are far from the only Fediverse project that could use some funding and we want to support the growth of the entire ecosystem.

So to give back to the open social web, we’re also donating $500,000 total to these incredible Fediverse-related projects 🎉 […]

the "vibe engineering" version of this — even in the fantasyland scenario where the tools work and produce correct results, somehow, even in the face of all the evidence that they don't — is that you establish a permanent unfixable dependency on *OpenAI's subscription services*, which are being […]

Checking out Bonfire's latest release. This Federation Status dashboard is pretty cool.

And get this - it's not just visible to admins - end users can see the same, just filtered to their OWN processes.

That's really helpful if you're trying to debug an […]

🔥 Bonfire now supports post imports when migrating instances.

You can bring your posts (+ optionally replies) with you when moving to a Bonfire instance from another instance or platform. Imported posts keep their original dates and URIs. Threads are preserved, as are like/boost counts. It […]

dammit, they got me. I accidentally shook my phone and got the new #Firefox "shake your phone to replace the web page you were reading with AI slop" feature (who thought that was a good idea?) My notes on how to turn it off on Apple iOS:

Extremely pleased to announce the release of the ActivityPub Fuzzer! This is a tool that runs in a local development environment and (partially) emulates known ActivityPub software. It can even create a fake local "public fire hose" shaped like what you might see if you hooked your […]

Monolithic servers doesn't have to be the way for ActivityPub, but we're just here because that was the easiest way to build originally, and everyone just copied everyone else here, stuffing activitypub into their software as essentially a bolt-on service.

Gee. Thanks Fediverse.

When I complain about Windows, I literally never thought about running Linux in my life.

As I stare at my shelf full of Linux laptops.

Or look back at my decades of working and playing with Linux systems.

Or the Linux stickers on my desk.

Or ...

Sometimes people just […]

I'm now offering a snapshot release of the Fediverse Schema Observatory database:

This is in advance of the impending release of the ActivityPub Fuzzer (see previous post in thread), which requires an Observatory snapshot to run correctly.

It's […]
