and the cool thing is there’s a whole model for it already, that’s how diversity *ahem* I mean “definitely NOT diversity, as of February 1 2025” fellowships work in Hollywood, there’s all this institutional knowledge on the pitfalls and benefits to be tapped!

one day after the regime falls perhaps

(with a bunch of safeguards to make sure they don’t just all get laid off after the first year of course)

bc it would massively help the reintegration effort if we could get veterans in the door at businesses that DON’T already understand how to translate military resumes to civilian skill sets

back when we had a government that occasionally attempted to improve society somewhat, I was quietly back channel pushing for some of that money to go towards a program paying veterans’ salary in private industry for the first year to get private employers excited about hiring veterans

he’s also obviously very very very far from the first to use this to build an army (the first was probably a pre Stone Age hominid)

and he’s actually one of the worst at implementing it in history bc so far it seems like he’s only actually induced this behavior in twitterbrained commentators

I used to think that originalism had some theoretical flaws that would make it hard to implement in reality. Now I realize that the flaw of originalism is that they just didn’t mean any of it and it’s all just cover for imposing their preferred partisan outcomes.

(there is another way to handle the thing where it actually does appear that human brains probably DO have Pascal’s “G-d shaped hole” whether or not the owner of said brain is interested in believing in a literal, mystical divine being)
if you want to harden yourself against propaganda—you are not immune, this vulnerability is a universal feature of the sentient brain, like the propensity to cancer is a universal feature of living cells—consider adopting a religious practice of your choosing, which does not need to be "religion"

it’s understandable that people in a world that has largely moved beyond the average educated person literally believing in a deity or deities have decided to imagine a technological savior to fulfill the role of “make human suffering appear to serve a greater purpose” but AI won’t do that

Hot take: a high estate tax is actually an investment in keeping families together?
December 8, 2025 at 8:12 AM
exactly my friend’s experience except that they’re not a year in yet and there’s a random godson nobody met before the relative died in addition to the toxic family

my friend has an entire family of New York Italians pissed at them for not short circuiting the probate process to let them divvy up the valuables according to their complicated hierarchy of cousins, this is the greatest curse I could bestow upon someone from beyond the grave

bold move but I respect it

one of us is going to have to end up with both magnets eventually and then that person will just have very fat snakes
December 8, 2025 at 3:22 AM
If you find your snake magnet please mail it to me, I have far too few snakes in my house and have had one too many rats in my stove
