I'm struggling to manage the sheer volume of emotions I'm experiencing lately. Both my grandfathers were on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. I wish they were here to give me advice about how to think of U.S. leadership right now, but a part of me is also glad they aren't alive to witness this.

As we say our annual farewell to Mariah Carey, her soothing voice can still be heard, trailing off into the distance, followed by a floating string of Christmas lights. Her voice slowly becomes more out of tune, just as a passing ambulance as it gets further away.
