This is one of the most important documents produced this year.

At a time when many of our professional organizations are punting, @aaup.org has been leading on EdTech, AI, academic freedom & faculty governance.

I'm humbled to be joining the team that authored this report.
Artificial Intelligence and Academic Professions
Educational technology, or ed-tech, including artificial intelligence (AI), continues to become more integrated into teaching and research in higher education, with minimal oversight. The AAUP’s ad ho...

This is profoundly disturbing
"After her hearing ended, three-year-old Lucy cuddled her teddy bear as she walked back from the lawyer’s table and took a seat.

Moments later, the next child was called up to face the judge..."

This is an important story in American military history.
On 16th March, 1968 Warrant Officer Hugh Thompson Jnr was flying helicopter recon for a US attack on My Lai, an alleged Viet Cong-controlled village in Vietnam.

But as the attack developed below, Thompson realised he was witnessing something something else:

A massacre.

He decided to act. 1/28

I just saw the Nutcracker ballet for the first time and it was amazing.

This experience makes me want to find more resources for non-experts from academics who are experts about storytelling and the different ways that we do it throughout history.

This is a good summary of many of my concerns about LLMs invading the education space. Chief among my concerns - cognitive engagement is critical for learning, but LLMs take that away, just leaving the generated product, which avoids the whole purpose of our course material and assignments

These are symbols of racism, anti-semitism, and violence. There's no spin that can deny that fact.

The American people and those who proudly represent us in the Coast Guard’s uniform deserve far better. This decision should be reversed immediately.
U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify swastikas, nooses as hate symbols
The military service, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, has drafted a new policy that classifies such items “potentially divisive.”

Trump and Hegseth's "Department of War" rebranding is more than just a name. It signals their vision of a force that disdains legality, as if whoever commits the most war crimes wins.

But as new research by @doncasler.bsky.social and @robertralston.bsky.social shows, the change is very unpopular,
Most Americans oppose the ’Department of War’ rebranding
Even 42% of Republicans are no fans of the change.

Quick point of clarification for pundits, politicians, journalists, & any others commenting on the Epstein Trump files:
The victims were NOT "young women". They were CHILDREN.
As such, they were not capable of giving legal consent. Sex without consent is rape.
Words matter. Get them right.

This week, when Mark and his wife checked their health care premiums for next year, they had quadrupled.

With a history of serious medical issues, Mark’s family cannot go without health insurance & must now figure out how they can afford to pay over $17,000 more for their coverage next year.

Americans are already being crushed by sky-high health care costs. Any increase to their monthly premiums will make insurance completely unaffordable for working families or small businesses just trying to get by.

This is absolutely unacceptable
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️
