I’m sorry, but this doesn’t really explain why everyone is suddenly fixated on the economy being terrible and thinks nothing is affordable. It’s true that services+housing are increasing in cost relative to goods.
BUT this is a long-term trend, and until 2021ish, everyone seemed pretty optimistic!

Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.
If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

As AI gets more sophisticated, the amount of this shit you’re gonna see across social media is gonna grow, as is the percentage of the population incapable of recognizing it as fake.
This will clearly only have negative impacts on people and society, and it’s insane that no one in power cares.

I can understand the ACA decision, but the core goal of this shutdown was to try and assert some manner of "the executive branch will follow the goddamn law"
We didn't get that, at all.

Still upset about no power of the purse language. You truly do hate to see it. The Trump admin undertook the most expansive set of illegal budgetary actions of any president in history, and broadcast as loudly as possible they’d keep doing it, and nothing. Budgetary lawlessness.

The real area where this is gonna quickly become a nightmare is the legal system.
There’s gonna be so much AI generated “evidence” thrown into cases that’s going to take armies of lawyers to sift through.
The growing embrace of this slop technology is going to fuck with society in so many ways.

And while true polling indicated inflation was the main thing that killed incumbent parties *around the world* circa 2023 & 2024, believing Donald Trump was the solution that involved a level of mass delusion among swing voters.

Whatever else one thinks about crime in NYC, a system that allows someone like this to walk free is broken.
Part of the issue: A court system incapable of processing cases in any timely manner.

I was in a section of West Harlem (by City College) that is part of the pilot program for these new bins. I hope the new Mayor expands this, and it truly will be one of the better parts of the Eric Adams legacy.
Look at how nicely these fit into the city streetscape, even if a few car owners cry.

The bigger issue is Sierra was led by NIMBYs who became counterproductive to environmental goals, but this is fair look at how “social justice” became a quasi-religion that swallowed up many once-great progressive organizations in service of a singular cause enforced with purity politics.
Really fascinating story on what's been going on at the Sierra Club the last few years. Lots of new details on declining membership rolls and revenues. Personally I have a lot of sympathy. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/07/u...

Look, I obviously agree Dems should be willing to take more fights.
But the idea that Biden could have changed things if he’d done more to reverse “worker backsliding” is delusional. He oversaw some of the greatest material gains for US workers in decades. And those workers DESPISED him for it.

One compelling conclusion in the report: Biden admin was reluctant to pick “fights worth having” and settled for incremental gains out of “risk aversion.”

I don’t understand the people who say “GET OFF TWITTER, ELON IS USING THE ALGORITHM TO CONTROL YOUR MIND” - then turn around and scoff at the idea that TikTok, a vastly larger app that is far more heavily built around an algorithm, might also be influencing people’s views.

Crazy how much some media has normalized the idea that voters are taking a risk if they elect governors/mayors who will defy Trump. That he’ll threaten their funding, etc.
Try to imagine, say. Greg Abbott being asked if he’s worried that Biden will punish Texas over his lawsuits.

AG or some other attorney office, comptroller, public advocate, running a company. It’s true that there aren’t tons and tons of people with credentials like this, but that’s kind of fine - you are talking about executive control of a city that’s comparable to a mid-sized state.
I mean... seems fine for a mayor? Not sure what else we'd rather see.
Not much executive experience you can expect from a guy running for NYC mayor. Not like you work your way up from a smaller town.

Speaking as someone who thinks Mamdani’s resume is pretty thin, the obvious concern here is that his one opponent has an incredibly extensive resume, which consists of political mismanagement and sexual harassment
