I think i’m gonna make a quince and custard pie for dessert tomorrow so first things first - poaching a buttload of quince in chardonnay with vanilla, sugar, and candied Buddha’s Hand.

We have a persimmon tree that i’ve never eaten a fruit from because i was confidently incorrect that persimmons had to ripen on the tree, and its so wet here that as they start to ripen they immediately rot. Then today i finally looked it up and guess what. WROOOOOOOOOOOOONG.

Sigh.

Protip, you don’t need to throw them away, you can coil them and hang them from bicycle hooks you put in your garage rafters next to rusty chainsaws instead. Then when you need to find one you can look up instead of dogging through a box!

Tried to make foccaccia using some fresh herbs @javapeg.bsky.social gave me and uh I think I’ll bake six more and use them to pick out a darling path through my garden instead.

I have some old photoa of my dad’s around, i’ll try to get some time to look through them and see if there’s some solid 80s-tacular pics of the business. I have some of his old manuals scattered around the house :)

A couple years ago i did a full, step-by-step “how to make a turducken” post on facebook, with pictures of every step of the gross process. They’re not hard, just time consuming, and they are *delicious*. If you’ve wanted to make one: www.facebook.com/share/17duYJ...

After a couple days of hippies not stealing those amanita muscarias under cover of night, i decided, hey, i’m hippie!

But i grabbed some to make spore prints, because that’s more fun than gettin blitzed. I think i left them too long, but its still pretty.

I am overwhelmed, have way too much to do, have way too little time to do it in… but also managed to encourage this to grow, and i think i’m gonna run on this win for a while. 🌱

Sautéed lions mane shrooms, shallots, and roasted garlic in the lobster mushroom infused oil and tossed tortellini in it, this is a strong “hell yeah” of a lunch.

We went to the PNW Wild Mushroom Expo today and I really loved these long table displays set up with fresh mushrooms, leaf mould, sticks, moss, and labels. It was a really fun way to realize that yes there are one billion types of mushrooms out there in the world.

I checked our mushroom logs and while i’m not seeing much on them, i wonder if this is the start of a flush of chicken of the woods?

I miss building beaver dam analogues. I haven’t helped build one for like three-four years. Its too late this year but hopefully next…

(Pic is one i helped build in 2019, two years later, with all the good swamp and trees and lush greenery it supports)
