In 2025 (less than 30 days away), PayPal will start selling your transaction history for targeted advertising.

I very highly recommend logging into your account and going to Settings > Data & Privacy > Personalized Shopping.

If you're reading this, turn that off RIGHT NOW before you forget.

You don't need to read it, here's the important part: "The key update to the Privacy Statement explains how we will share information with merchants to personalize your shopping experience and recommend our services to you. Personal information we disclose includes, for example, products, preferences, sizes, and styles we think you’ll like. Information gathered about you after the effective date of our updated Privacy Statement, November 27, 2024, will be shared with participating stores where you shop." Here's the whole paragraph: We are updating our Privacy Statement to explain how, starting early Summer 2025, we will share information to help improve your shopping experience and make it more personalized for you. The key update to the Privacy Statement explains how we will share information with merchants to personalize your shopping experience and recommend our services to you. Personal information we disclose includes, for example, products, preferences, sizes, and styles we think you’ll like. Information gathered about you after the effective date of our updated Privacy Statement, November 27, 2024, will be shared with participating stores where you shop, unless you live in California, North Dakota, or Vermont. For PayPal customers in California, North Dakota, or Vermont, we’ll only share your information with those merchants if you tell us to do so. No matter where you live, you’ll always be able to exercise your right to opt out of this data sharing by updating your preference settings in your account under “Data and Privacy.”

This is not to say you shouldn't do everything in your means to prevent infection.

A friend asked me for tips on finding your crowd here. I've been lucky in finding cool folks I know from elsewhere & new folks, but it does take a little investigating and work :) So here are a few tips if you're new and wondering where to start (not comprehensive!)

How I found my crowd on BlueSky *not about followers #1 Look, it's me! • Upload an avatar [drawing of avatar blob-person, underneath it says: It's me | I make arts] • fill out the bio. Make sure you mention what you do if you're looking for peers/fellow travelers •Make an intro post (so folks can see more of who you are) #2 SEARCH (a little) [drawing of magnifying glass] • Find folks you know from other places (you only need to find a few, BECAUSE...) • Look at the follows/followers of folks you know! Just like in real life, they probably know other folks you do. #ENGAGE [drawing of two faces sharing a heart in a thought bubble] • Post stuff that has something to do w/the people you want to connect with • Comment on posts. On here replies are out front, other people see these and can find you! TIP: set your replies to 0 in Home Feed setting to see more replies NOTE: Comment sincerely and positively, not just to be seen. Avoid sarcasm and irony because they can come off as shitty. #4 FIND YOUR FEEDS! [drawing of blob-person yelling "it's all about feeds!"] • Find/follow feeds that collect what you're interested in... TIP: there's no algorithm here, so you can repost your own post without being penalized. You can also repost old posts, it's fine! You don't need to be a "content" machine ♥Rori!

Okay! So threading can be rough here! Here's all my "guide" together if you need it (not exhaustive, just the stuff I tell folks to get them started :) )

So you decided to join BLUE SKY [it's not twitter] #1 upload an avatar #2 set Moderation Settings (box showing moderation hand symbol) Moderation (arrow pointing to) Content Filtering (arrow pointing to drawing of toggle) Toggle to enable Adult Content THEN choose Hide, Warn, or SHOW (star) tip: images are AI moderated so some slip thru & some G-rated images get tagged as "explicit", so "Warn" may be the bet choice atm #3 Go to SETTINGS (box with drawing of toggle) toggle require alt text on images (please ♥) (arrow points to) Home Feed Prefs (star) Use these settings to control seeing reposts & replies on your TL #4 Go to My Feeds Go to "Discover New Feeds" to search for interesting feeds like "Only Posts" Click the "+" to add the feed (box) Go to the (gear icon) [edit my feeds] here you can pin and unpin feeds (side note) pinned feed will appear at the top of your TL Don't forget to "♥" the feed when you click on it to preview, this helps others find it! A closer look at: HOME FEED PREFERENCES (toggle drawing) Show Replies: toggle to allow, and adjust "likes" to see more/fewer replies to posts in your home feed (tl) Less likes = more replies seen = FULLER TIMELINE Show Reposts: you can turn off all reposts here, but you can't turn off reposts from individual accts (yet.) Show Quote Posts: you can turn off QPs, but reposts will still be visible if you don't turn them off as well. Intro to Bluesky privacy: (drawing of unlocked padlock) 1.
