Keep remembering:
Don’t let cruelty make you cruel.
(Being cruel to or wishing cruelty on people who supported the cruel person is still cruelty.)

Last night, Temple Israel in Minneapolis was defaced with anti-Semitic hate.

My heart is with the congregants of Temple Israel and our entire Jewish community. Hate has no home in Minnesota, and every house of worship should be a safe place to pray.

This piece also (intentionally?) misunderstands the purpose & impact of DEI programs in workplaces. They are about readiness, profitability (in business), morale, retention. The author frames them as "affirmative action" and "social justice" initiatives, divorced from performance imperatives.

Despite appearances, this is not a @nytpitchbot.bsky.social joke, it's an actual @nytimes.com column by some Claremont hack who praises Hegseth for his "nuanced vision of the military’s purpose and its relationship to civilian society."

That’s not accurate.
“Another protester, Reverand David Black of the First Presbyterian church of Chicago, said that he was pelted with about seven or eight ‘pepper exploding pellets’ that hit his head, face, torso, arms and legs, while in a position of prayer.”

Respecting a religious burial for an enemy of the U.S. also helps keep our troops, diplomats -- hell, even tourists traveling abroad -- safer.
jessicashortall.bsky.social
does everyone understand that respecting religious rites for the even most heinous person is a mark of a healthy, honorable democracy that deserves its leadership position in the world -- and it gives that democracy credibility on religious liberty, freedom, and human rights

I assume there were complex geopolitical reasons for burying bin Laden at sea according to Muslim customs, and that both the burial and the communications about it were carefully crafted to reflect that complexity.
Now the Cmdr in Chief writes a wholly different story.
jessicashortall.bsky.social
He says here that the Navy "dumped his wretched corpse" into the sea.
The Navy statement at the time was that ObL "received a Muslim ceremony as he was buried at sea," following "traditional Muslim...customs."
The U.S. wanted to deny followers a shrine, and it was simply the honorable thing to do.

Trump: "Please remember I wrote Osama bin Laden exactly one year ago, one year before he blew up the World Trade Center. And I said, 'You gotta watch Osama bin Laden!' ... I gotta take a little credit."

I've been on a bender about Renaissance art and how Hans Holbein the Younger was kind of metal, if you want to know how I'm doing.
See this weird shape in his 1533 painting The Ambassadors? If you stand w/your head pressed to the wall next to the painting it snaps into focus (see next threaded post)

Look at Holbein's poor wife, who basically raised these children on her own while he was off in Basel or whatever and probably having mistresses. I bet she was like memento mori, Hans, remember you'll die because I'm gonna kill you.
jessicashortall.bsky.social
babe are u ok you've barely touched your chatGPT-generated portrait of Hans Holbein the Younger as a death metal rocker
jessicashortall.bsky.social
Lucky for you all, my current obsession with Hans Holbein the Younger's metal tendencies resulted in this little AI glow-up

Metal. AF.
This is called a memento mori. It's a message to the viewer: "remember that you will die."
Holbein painted it into The Ambassadors like an insert in photoshop that he stretched out to make you work to see it. Wild stuff.
