Experiences of living with long COVID during childhood and adolescence: a qualitative study from the child’s perspective - BMC Pediatrics
Background In February 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) defined long COVID in children, highlighting limited knowledge about its psychosocial impact. Studies show it as a complex, long-lasting condition affecting multiple systems. WHO and researchers emphasise the need for more understanding, particularly its effect on daily life. The aim of this study was to explore how life is experienced and how it changed whilst living with long COVID during childhood. Methods We present a qualitative study with an inductive and exploratory approach. Between October 2022 and March 2024, 16 children between 9 and 18 years old diagnosed with long COVID were interviewed face-to-face using a semi-structured interview guide. The results were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke. Results The results present the subjective reality of children suffering from long COVID and their struggle in daily life. The findings are presented through three themes: Losing my foothold, Fatigue decides my path, and My way forward, illustrating a temporal and emotional journey, reflecting how children make sense of their experiences, adapt to the persistent impact of long COVID, and gradually move toward acceptance. Conclusions This study addresses the lack of knowledge of long COVID in the society, how it affects children in their struggle to find a new path in life. It also shows that, with knowledge and support, the symptoms and the burden of the condition can decrease or even pass. It is important that people around these children, including health care, school and family, use this knowledge to promote health and avoid educational, health and social problems at a vulnerable time in life.

Well done to those wearing decent masks and not sharing virus. Otherwise how much transmission will there be and how many future cases of long covid?

Lord Heseltine, "The number of people aged below 50 who think it was right for us to leave the European Union, is less than 20%

"The latest polls tells us 56% now believe it was mistake to leave the European Union"

Hands up if you are one of the 56% 🙋‍♂️

I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?

My secret evil plot to ‘destroy Britain’ has been unveiled by (checks notes) the same paper that endorsed Liz Truss.

If I don’t know better I’d say we’ve got them entirely rattled.

My wife and I flew from Amsterdam to Montreal recently on a full 787, wearing our N95s. As far as I could tell, we were the only passengers wearing any kind of mask. It left me feeling sad about the way we have been manipulated by the powerful elites who worship at the altar of capitalism.

1. I've had a surprising number of conversations about Covid-19 over the past week or so, all sparked by the fact that I was, as always, wearing an FFP2 respirator. People in healthcare facilities, taxi drivers, people on trains and buses.

Viruses like SARS-CoV-2 don’t need to kill fast to be catastrophic.

The acute phase is often survivable.

But it leaves behind microvascular scars, immune dysfunction, and chronic inflammation.

We are already seeing elevated risks of diabetes, cardiovascular events, strokes, - https://x.com/o...

Lyme, ME/CFS, endometriosis, long COVID, coeliac disease, adenomyosis, fibromyalgia & all the other conditions where there's actually nothing wrong with us, but we just enjoy pretending to be ill. For fuck's sake. It's like we've regressed to the 1960s when my mum was accused of being a malingerer.

Yep. This is not true. And it would be nice if health authorities did a bit of staff development to update their knowledge. Also 'washing hands' is not the best way to stop the spread of Covid, as my local hospital trust just broadcast.

"The primary method of COVID-19 transmission is through droplets, which quickly settle on surfaces within two meters. However, airborne precautions are used during aerosol-generating medical procedures (AGMPs) to minimize the risk of transmission." #COVIDisAirborne #nspoli

There are so many narratives about #Covid and those of us who are avoiding infection. Sometimes there's the suggestion we're motivated by #anxiety. I have to say, it's the opposite with me. I have to force myself to remember the science so that I have the resolve to keep up protection measures.

California researchers have engineered a trimeric ACE2 decoy molecule capable of blocking entry of a broad range of SARS-CoV-2 variants as well as a SARS-CoV-1 strain #SARSCOV2 #Covid19 #SARS
Development of an Ultrahigh Affinity Trimeric ACE2 Biologic as a Universal SARS-CoV-2 Antagonist
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, utilizes membrane-bound, angiotensin-converting enzyme II (ACE2) for internalization and infection. We describe the development of a biologic that takes advantage of the proximity of the N-terminus of bound ACE2 to the three-fold symmetry axis of the spike protein to create an ultrapotent, trivalent ACE2 entry antagonist. Distinct disulfide bonds were added to enhance serum stability and a single point mutation was introduced to eliminate enzymatic activity. Through surface plasmon resonance, pseudovirus neutralization assays, and single-particle cryo-electron microscopy, we show this antagonist binds to and inhibits SARS-CoV-2 variants.   We further show the antagonist binds to and inhibits a 2003 SARS-CoV-1 strain. Collectively, structural insight has allowed us to design a universal trivalent antagonist against all variants of SARS-CoV-2 tested, suggesting it will be active against the emergence of future mutants. Structure-guided engineering of a trimeric ACE2 viral decoy reveals high affinity for spike protein, viral inhibition, and serum stability, offering a universal therapeutic strategy against SARS-CoV-2 variants and SARS-CoV-1 through symmetry-matched avidity.   Published in Communications Biology (Oct. 6, 2025): https://doi.org/10.1038/s42003-025-08819-w

Did you know that the NHS automatically infers recovery for people with LongCOVID if they don’t return to see their GP within 6-months of a diagnosis/referral appointment. Why would you go back to your GP when you’re told “there is nothing we can do for you”?

Apart from the initial few months many of us had zero support from our unions and lost our jobs. That’s what really happened and children and staff died. People are still dying and I am really annoyed that this is not being verbally acknowledged. People really screwed up.
