You forgot #5: Some small firms that depend on imports for raw materials will go out of business
Four things can happen when a tariff hits:
1) Foreign firms cut prices
2) Retail margins get squeezed
3) Retailers pass it on to you
4) Some imports just stop
Latest data: #1 didn’t happen, #2 a lot at first, #3 a bit so far, and #4 in spots.
Bottom line: Americans (#2, #3) are paying the tariffs.

There’s no longer any pretense this has anything to do with crime (there are cities or parts of cities in SC and Ohio that have higher crime rates than DC — send the troops there!). This is about establishing a precedent for Trump seizing control of the nation’s capital when he wants to.

Just listened to a long interview with a retired LCOL who had been working as a security contractor in Gaza. His description of what’s going on there is frightening and appalling. All the PR by Netanyahu and cronies is false.

One excuse for hampering access to food distribution and for firing on starving people in Gaza is that Hamas will be stealing all the food. Hamas and other militants are 2% of the population. How much can they eat? And why would massive crowds allow armed militants to succeed in such theft?

What would have happened had the police that participated in George Floyd's murder been masked, not word IDs, and left in an unmarked car? Despite recorded video, would the murderers have been identified and prosecuted? How long before some poor suspected illegal immigrant suffers the same fate?

Here's an idea for companies to (1) bring jobs back to the USA; (2) Increase customer satisfaction; and (3) promote customer loyalty. Bring call centers, office or remote, back to US, in numbers sufficient to answer on the second ring. Train them as the best marketers for your products and services.

Trump's Post: "Because of Tariffs, our Economy is BOOMING!" BS. If half of Q1 saw Biden +2.4% GDP growth rate but the entire quarter saw -0.3%, that would mean the second half of Q2 saw -3%. I don't see how the economy can come back from a -3% rate in a single quarter. I see Q2 at -2.0% or worse.

OK so here's my idea for bringing jobs back to the U.S. Require that any call to a US telephone exchange including all toll-free numbers such as 800, 833, etc. be answered by US persons operating within the US. Two benefits: more stateside workers and less customer service frustration.

Project 2.4% for one month out of three gives a 0.8% rise in January. To get from there to -0.3% in two months requires -0.55% per month or -1.65% per quarter. That was the real growth rate since inauguration. Evidence points to even worse performance going forward.
