Hi Bluesky, I wanted to introduce myself as I have just “landed” here. I’m an elder millennial gay, a little witchy, mostly progressive, and strongly believe in respecting opinions *provided* there is substance backing it up. I’m up for debate, and even sass, but rudeness will be an instant block.
Pete Hegseth called all these people here for a TED Talk?

There’s no better encapsulation of the current Democratic Party than the constant entreaties to hear your ideas in a “focus group” only to be brought to a donation page. 🤑 #dnc #democrats

Somehow missed this 2022 UK paper exploring responses to radical right parties (RRP) and whether accommodation - i.e. "beat" them by repeating a version of their tale actually worked electorally.

Short version: Nope.

As I've argued eleventy-billion times: You cannot beat your opposition by repeating your opposition. This both dissuades your base from voting, let alone acting as your "choir," it raises saliency of oppo's desired debate.

Dear Senate Democrats: if you’re considering supporting the Republican CR because you’re concerned about Trump using a shutdown to stage more lawlessness—you’ve lost the plot.

They’re in charge. They need your vote. Show some spine or get tf out of the way.

Not to mention, when we sent weapons to Ukraine, we made more here in the US to replenish our stockpiles. Arming Ukraine *supported* the industrialization of America. Biden's jobs record speaks for itself.
Vance has, for years, used this technique where he mischaracterizes the position of his opponents by taking it to an extreme that they never advocated, then arguing w/that fictitious position. Supporters don’t want “permanent” shipments, nor did we advocate de-industrialization.

Trump firing the 300 people who oversee our nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile and then realizing the gravity of his mistake before trying to backtrack is a perfect encapsulation of how is dangerous incompetence is putting the entire world at risk.

Here’s the thing. Every one of these people in tears heard Trump on the stump before Nov. They knew he was cruel. But they were fine with it, thinking he’d only hurt the people they didn’t like. The problem with cruelty—It spreads. You don’t get to control it. Sooner or later, it comes for you too.
