I understand the pushback to some of this. It is, inevitably, a thought exercise that is going to be wrong on some (or all) fronts. BUT a United States that forcibly (whether militarily or economically) annexes Canada will inevitably cease to be the United States, as we understand it as such.
As Trump threatens to annex Canada, some worry an American invasion could one day become reality.
