Why Trump would be perfect for an honorary U-M doctoral degree
Awarding Trump an honorary doctoral degree would be an opportunity to recognize the long way the University has walked in less than two years. U-M juniors may still remember times when the campus code...

I'm just a simple country doctor, but maybe it was a bad idea to outsource so much of higher ed's infrastructure to private companies' proprietary technologies with single points of failure.
According to more than a dozen college and uni students, “the Canvas outage threw off their schedules, preventing them from not just submitting and viewing assignments but also from participating in-class activities, contacting professors, and accessing the textbooks and other materials…”
The AWS Outage Was a Nightmare for College Students
The outage impacted online learning platform Canvas, which is used by half of college students across the US, leaving many unable to access course materials or contact professors.

As a 3rd generation academic, my family has been teaching continuously since the 1950s and only the last 20 years involved Learning Management Systems. They’re by no means necessary to the project of learning, and if they demand surrendering autonomy to corporations then they should be discontinued.

I can't second this enough. What you need is a set of flexible skills, like critical thinking, textual and semiotic interpretation, media literacy, political competency, and an understanding of how knowledge is produced along with the specifics of a discipline or industry.
"Learn to code" was always bad advice, unless you actually like to code. College students have the best chance of professional success if they major in topics that interest them. Today in @startribune.com. Please tell high school students and parents.

Opinion: College students, go ahead and major in what you love
"The lesson here is simple: Major in what you love, not what you think will get you a job," David M. Perry writes.

As some of the comments make clear, the Tesla completely ignored the school bus stop sign as well.
“Tesla’s driverless ‘robotaxis’ could launch in Austin as soon as June 22. But a demo in Austin today showed a $TSLA, manually driven to test its Full Self-Driving system, failed to stop for a child-sized dummy at a school bus—and hit it.”

If we want students to be "bilingual," we should have them study second languages. Of course, that would involve funding the liberal arts & the Department of Education not gutting Title VI area studies centers & FLAS fellowships. Please don't insult our intelligence by changing the meaning of words.

1) exactly where Trump's pain points are;

2) how much to squeeze them before he flinches;

and

3) how little America's partners and allies want to help this president.

Highly useful information.
