Ooh, this place still has that "new social media possibility" smell. Let's see how long it lasts. (I dunno, just here to post some shit takes and maybe learn a little somethin'.)
"Artificial Intelligence??

It's Artificial that anyone with Intelligence would think computers...
could reproduce the darkness of the human
MIND."
Would Garth Marenghi be pro-AI or anti-AI?

Going through TSA at the San Diego airport and oops I set it off. Look at the screen.

Big yellow exclamation mark on... my dick

Not the crotchal region, mind you. Just directly on the ol bait and tackle. The Johnson & Johnsons.

The San Diego Zoo was one of my favorite experiences on a vacation ever. Hands down. Had so much fun today

My vacation odyssey.

10 mins from the airport my car breaks down. Panic. Think it through, this is ok. Flight's transferrable. Get it towed to a local dealership. Have them look at it over the weekend. Switch flights to one 3 hours later with a layover in Dallas. Trip not lost. BUT WAIT...

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

If they’re going to roll over like this after an electoral blowout less than a week ago, why bother electing Democrats to Congress next year? What would they actually do?
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

I cannot stress this enough:
**If you live in a Democratic district, LITERALLY ANY OF THEM, contact your rep right now and tell them if enough Dems cave on the shutdown they ALL lose your support**

It's not enough to just stop the cowards, we need to get the rest peer pressuring them.

This is my new favorite thread. What a cool answer about such a (on the surface) dumb name
I LEARNED THE ANSWER TO THIS

Chris's Steakhouse was a New Orleans landmark

Chris Matulich periodically got bored, sold it, waited for the new owner to fail, and bought it back cheap

The sale conditions: Can't move it, can't change the name

He did this six times

Then he sold it to Ruth Fertel
what did ruth mean when she said her steakhouse was "chris"

The sheer number of Republican donors who lit MILLIONS on fire for Ciattarelli and Cuomo has me non-stop grinning ear to ear tonight

Decision Desk HQ is calling NJ for Sherrill already! Based on their history that's very reliable and a HUGE win early in a tight race

On the one hand, knowing early 2000s humor this absolutely fits... but on the other it's WILD that these lines were even *attempted* with a brand like MLB.
Still need more baseball?

We found a CD in our archives containing dozens of unused voice lines from MLB Slugfest 20-03 rejected by the MLB. Here's some of our favorites.

Elon & Co. have embraced "The Scouring of the Shire" with zero effort to understand its themes or context. Tolkien never intended a direct allegory but the text itself is clear: Direct opposition to exploiting the people or the environment for capital. Support for collective resistance. Full stop.

Somebody actually took the "looking for a partner in crime" cliche seriously
Looooove so many things I’ve got to tell you.

Counterpoint: 80-90% of these songs do, in fact, rule ("Waiting for a Star to Fall" in particular is a BANGER)
People need to stop retconning literally the worst era in American popular music history into something it wasn't, just because there were also some amazing records that like 250 people happened to be hunting down and listening to

So I'm headed to San Diego for the first time next month. Any places I shouldn't miss visiting? Even if they're obvious.

This isn't even racism by ignorance. EVERYBODY I knew growing up had people they called aunt and uncle that were often as distantly related to them as "really good friends with my mom or dad." Every culture embraced that kind of larger family and they're lying to deny it.

Platner's background doesn't disqualify him from being a legit leftist candidate. But it does make the "I'm just a guy who joined the military out of high school, how would I know this was a Nazi tattoo" story sound REAL sus
lmao just one fucking second please
October 22, 2025 at 5:37 PM
"Yo, I just got this cool skull & bones tattoo in the military-- it's what we did at the time. We didn't know shit about Nazis"

My dude, I don't think any of this, plus the fact you STILL HAVE IT, is a good argument for your ability to self-evaluate and grow as a *fucking member of Congress*
October 22, 2025 at 12:18 AM
In retrospective cringe, there's little worse than 90s white kids at house parties singing along to Rage:
"FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YA TELL ME"
...and just meaning their parents

Grandpa Joe: "When a loaf of bread looks like a banquet, I've no right buying tobacco."
Me: "Actually my dude, you've no right buying tobacco cause you're FULLY capable of walking and instead have a CHILD working for you."

My dad passed 22 years ago today. Not a significant anniversary or anything, but he's been on my mind lately. Still miss him. That never goes away.

Anyway, here's a Sam Fender song about sons and fathers that hits hard.

Trying out the new co-op dinosaur horror game tonight! Check it out on slowbeef's twitch! Or on Evie's! As you can tell from the exclamation marks, I am excited!
Tonight! Deathground - in Early Access but billed as Jurassic Park: Isolation even though it’s co-op but the raptors have AI. The regular video game AI not the other one. This is getting away from me, but @evelyth.the-gay.cat @jimdowney.bsky.social @turboc.bsky.social are doing it at 9pm ET!

I'm friends with an army colonel. We've not talked about Hegseth. But from past conversations about the HUGE struggles in recruitment, a big problem is alienating recruits who feel like no one wants them around. Like, ya know, anyone non-white. I'm sure this message will go over REAL well.
Hegseth to the Navy: "Your diversity is not your strength"
