The Bondi Junction mass shooting is horrible, my thoughts go out to the victims and their families. It is concerning that I see opportunists champing at the bit to use this tragedy to spread hate, because that same hate is what caused the horror we see now.

The secret agent is too good, it's exciting to see such a daring and formally bold movie get recognition from major awards bodies. Moura is the stuff of legends, Filco is a master in his prime. Reminds me of Aftersun and Saint Omer in all the best possible ways.

I will say it's very funny that people who write about Pynchon feel the have to get into literary "measuring contest" (if you catch my drift) and dry out their prose with witless, flavourless verbosity. Especially if you're critical, you need to prove you can write like he can for some reason.
“Shadow Ticket” is the first new work by Thomas Pynchon in a dozen years—and, at 88, he’s “still panoptic, exciting, abstruse, distractible, and, for good or ill, unrestrained,” Kathryn Schulz writes.
Reading the New Pynchon Novel in a Pynchonesque America
“Shadow Ticket,” Pynchon’s first book in a dozen years, unfolds its conspiracies in Depression-era Milwaukee and beyond, but it lands in a moment when reality seems to have caught up with his fictions...

Reading shadow ticket reviews and many of them seem to be mad at the fact it's a Pynchon novel? The new yorker review especially is just the reviewer being vaguely grumpy that they have to read the book. I hate what the critical establishment has become.

Never forget that stand-ups are the ad-men of fascists. They will sell any inch of their soul for a cent and promise it wholesale for the cheapest laughs.

PTA's new movie supplants the original Vineland ending for one that I find very fitting, it's a master stroke. I can't help however but imagine that today Brock Vond wouldn't be called back, he would just reach the end of his rope. Just have no further money to expend. That's the end of the admin.

I've thought more about Kirk and I have to say, man what a pointless death. There's a supreme emptiness in someone so pointless dying. No reason to be sad, or angry. Nothing was achieved, because Kirk never did anything. A pointless life, a pointless death.

I see no reason for American lawmakers to pay any attention to the death of Charlie kirk. He was not a man worth speaking of, not worth condemning political violence for. He was a waste of air till the very end.

If there was any doubt that these are concentration camps, there is none now. These are conditions you'd expect to find in Auschwitz. It's not "thank god he got out" (though I'm glad someone has) it's "oh god we have to get them out."

Reporting on something so spurious and unquantifiable is a tell-tale sign that this is the next big push in the right-wing media, replace everything you love with robotic half-approximations and that is fine. Good, even, and no-one can judge it.

It's really funny that marvel has Ryan Coogler on call and didn't give him Blade, the black vampire movie.

I actually think somehow the problem here is bigger than trump in this instance. Like let's be real "our lifestyle revolves around exploiting migrant labour" is bad, but "our exploited migrant labourers are being taken to death camps" paints a picture of a system in decay long before fascist control
This is the consequences when we chose the wrong
direction.

I think the big indicator of whether something is AI is the rate of production. AI users have no patience, so they'll throw out a hundred tracks in a week or two, but they also don't have the discipline to continue with anything that isn't immediately gratifying (...)

Hold on... is this going to be good? Positing racial discrimination as a way for the capitalist to reassert himself over a united group of workers? That's a lot more insightful than I would have thought a modern animal farm would be.

The Erin Patterson trial is perhaps the least interesting murder case of the century. I do not care about it in the least and am frankly confounded by the media attention it has received.

One of the dumbest, most utterly asinine takes you'll see on here. "What radicalised me against socialism is the capitalist housing market" are you braindead? Is there even a little light flickering in that moth-eaten upstairs?
Nothing has radicalized me against socialism more than housing. We've seen exactly what total democratic control of the housing market looks like and it's fucking terrible. Good things only happen when you don't need the government's permission to do them.

You owe nothing to corporations. You owe less than nothing to corporations. They are very really in debt to every single person in this country. This is not a "don't shop at this place" moment, it is a moment where we need to realise that corporations ought to be ruined for this decision
Companies are lobbing higher prices on consumers outside America, all so that Americans won't pay the full price of Trump's tariff mania, write Bernard Keane and Glenn Dyer.
