Bluesky folks came up with a fundamentally new and privacy-protecting method of doing this unlike every other service. Almost every negative response is based on how people assume Bluesky is doing this based on how bad everyone else does it. Bad actors have so poisoned the entire market...

We’re launching Find Friends, a contact import feature that helps you find people you know on Bluesky.

Try it! In the mobile app, go to Settings → Find friends from contacts.

January 6 was like a much dumber version of Hitler’s Beer Hall Putsch and yet a plurality of American voters were like, Yeah, let’s give that guy the nuke codes again. An absolutely world historical debacle of societal ignorance. I’ll never understand it.

I hope people understand that if Trump gets his way America will soon be part of the global axis of evil if we aren't already. You see it in the Caribbean, you see it in Ukraine, and you see it with Trump trying to buddy up to Xi. We are a malevolent force.

BREAKING: ICE is sending Russian dissidents back to Russia. When the dissidents arrived in Russia, the Russian authorities were given documents relating to their asylum applications in the US which under US law are confidential. This seems to be part of a secret agreement between Trump and Putin.
‘I escaped a Russian prison — only to end up in an American jail’
Dozens of Russian dissidents have been expelled from the US and forcibly returned to Russia with the co-operation of immigration authorities

We are literally destroying our planet and ourselves in service of a toy a handful of billionaires have promoted as the everything app to destroy the negotiation power of labor. We are going to kill ourselves to fire ourselves because they want to permanently pull the ladder up behind them.
“The AI in the study probably prompted doctors to become over-reliant on its recommendations, ‘leading to clinicians becoming less motivated, less focused, and less responsible when making cognitive decisions without AI assistance,’ the scientists said in the paper.”
AI Eroded Doctors’ Ability to Spot Cancer Within Months in Study
Artificial intelligence, touted for its potential to transform medicine, led to some doctors losing skills after just a few months in a new study.

U.N. special rapporteur Alice Edwards said she's documented "serious cases of torture" in Russian prisons and detention sites. “Look, I’m calling this part of Russian war policy. It’s clear that it’s organized. It’s clear that it’s systematic.”

A Russian operation is one of the most successful so far in getting lies repeated by popular AI chatbots. Gift link to my story today. wapo.st/44vhnR3
Russia seeds chatbots with lies. Any bad actor could game AI the same way.
In their race to push out new versions with more capability, AI companies leave users vulnerable to “LLM grooming” efforts that promote bogus information.

Since the onset of the war, Czechia’s crude oil imports have contributed nearly 3 billion euros in tax revenues to the Russian state. In total, Czechia has spent 8.4 billion euros on Russian oil and gas since February 2022, more than six times the 1.32 billion euros it has provided in aid to Ukraine

The surrender of legacy media and social platforms to MAGA is multicausal but largely the product of a disciplined campaign to make infrastructure political. Without a bad-faith campaign involving years and unimaginable sums of money, I highly doubt organic incentives would produce this outcome.
