Dictators of all stripes hate solidarity. They’d prefer that we cower alone. They want us to feel powerless.

This is why I encourage you to participate in the peaceful demonstrations planned for today across America. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/april-5-hands-off-our-healthcare

Trump TRIED TO OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMENT, and our solution was, literally, “let him off the hook and hope he simply goes away of his own accord.” And then we were shocked when he came back and… showed no respect for the law or government. He’d already committed the worst treason in US history!

If Trump can disappear green card holders for protesting war, he can disappear you.

If he can disappear visa holders for criticizing him, he can disappear you.

If he can disappear asylum seekers for tattoos, he can disappear you.

We must speak out now — before there is no one left to speak out.

Millions of you, around the world, have put the lessons I wrote in #OnTyranny in late 2016 to good use. It has been humbling to learn how from courageous and creative dissenters, protestors, and oppositionists. I was honored when John Lithgow volunteered to read them aloud.
Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century."

If your Social Security check is late or doesn't arrive at all, remember who is to blame.
Social Security Says DOGE Ruling Could Force Agency to Shut Down
The Trump administration is threatening to all but shut down the Social Security Administration in response to a judge’s ruling blocking activities by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency — an action that could delay payments to millions of beneficiaries caught in the middle of the legal battle.

Remember: The fundamental issue isn’t the size of the government or how to make government more “efficient.”

It’s who our government is for.

Should it work mainly for big corporations and billionaires, including the richest person in the world — or for the rest of us?

This is how we keep our democracy. Power to the people.
Tonight an unbelievable **34,000 people** gathered for our Denver rally to take on billionaires and win our country back.

This was the largest political gathering in Denver since Obama in 2008.

Also bigger than the 2024 DNC.

And the largest ever rally in Bernie’s career (and obviously, mine too).

Like most bullies, Trump can be constrained only if everyone stands up to his bullying. Go to town halls. Tell your local media to report on DOGE cuts in your community. Keep speaking out. The fight against authoritarianism will take all of us — and we can't relent.

This Repub CR, that they claim will keep the government open, is a perfect example of why you must read bills.

Inside the text, you’ll find cuts everywhere, and so much money taken from vets you wouldn’t believe it. These guys are frauds.

Nice try! Hard NO! Throw it in the 🗑️

Trump’s Pentagon purge has included the top military lawyers. Nobody should be surprised. Dictators politicize the military. Trump wants those with the biggest guns loyal to him, not the Constitution He says he’s demilitarizing it. I call BS. Orwellian to the core.

And yet somehow:

1) most Democratic politicians are in wait and see mode.
2) major journo funders are, again, undergoing internal realignments
3)major donors to NGOs & democracy groups are sulking or scared.

We can’t wait on a blueprint for what comes next. We need to fight for the country now.
