The Ohio House will soon vote on a Republican bill that would require students to see videos on fetal development—which opponents say is anti-abortion propaganda.

Lots going on at the Ohio Statehouse today! Follow along for all of the details.
Starting shortly, Ohio House Health Committee is voting on House Bill 324, to restrict abortion medication based on a flawed "study" from an anti-abortion organization. The bill may be voted on in House session this afternoon.

It's not safe to be pregnant in Texas. Especially since everyone knew this would be the result of an abortion ban.

But also, let's not forget - one of the 90+ doctors could have averted this. They are not off the hook just because Texas's law caused this.
NEW:

In 2024, Tierra Walker was sick and getting sicker. She was also pregnant.

She knew abortion was illegal in Texas, but thought there was an exception for women like her, whose health was at risk. Doctors told her there was no emergency.

Then she died.

Walker is one of several women ProPublica found with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions.

The Republican amendment to the bill was needed because the committee chair did not understand that the original bill did not allow parents to opt out their student from being forced to view this propaganda.

...which our @jmiracleoh.bsky.social told her about last week.

Well I had some fun in the legislature today…
Next witness is our own @jmiracleoh.bsky.social: Public schools are not a place to make religious assertions out to be fact, nor a battleground for the political ends the adults who are supposed to protect our children’s education decide to take up."

If you were wondering how my week is going… check out the testimony I just delivered to the House Medicaid committee. They keep trying to pass unconstitutional abortion restrictions and we are here still fighting to make sure the voices of Ohioans are heard no matter what BS the leg throws at us.

We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion. It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will now involve sending in another state’s military troops.

This is good news, but as @jessicavalenti.bsky.social & @mintimm.bsky.social explain, it doesn’t mean the administration’s approach to abortion has changed.

As long as mifepristone is approved, the FDA doesn’t really have a choice but to approve the generic too.

In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

The million dollar question: where's the map?

"Tylenol causes autism" is bananas but easy to comprehend from a feminist perspective. They want women* to suffer without pain relief. They want to control pregnant women.

But just saw @robinmarty.com point out that it's also to counter the "medication abortion is safer that Tylenol"

And oooof.

Scientists often argue that abortion medication is considered safer than Tylenol whenever there are attacks against it.

And all year anti-abortion groups like Charlotte Lozier have used this comparison to question the safety of both abortion pills & Tylenol.

This is peak anti-abortion framework.

Abortion rights shouldn’t be a bargaining chip lawmakers use to negotiate what they consider to be “legitimate” political issues. Abortion is inextricably linked with economic, climate, and health care policy. It is a legitimate political issue. You bend on abortion, you’ll bend on anything.

The #Ohio Democrats' proposed maps are very impressive

They follow all aspects of our state Constitution (novel concept) but would also create districts that are ACTUALLY FLIPPABLE by BOTH PARTIES!

We could hold our legislators accountable! 🥹
