Streets are still closed off in front of the Portland ICE facility at 8:30pm. Protesters have gathered on a side street. Dance party in progress.

This thread from a Willamette U historian explains a lot about Multnomah and OR Republicans and how long they’ve been so far right bsky.app/profile/seth...

A major reason why Republicans in Portland are "an endangered species" is that the OR GOP as an institution has become one of the more radically far right, state-level parties in the country. And in a state party gone off the deep end, the Multnomah county GOP stands out for its extremism.

This was lazy reporting, and the Times would have done better for its audience exploring why so many Portlanders voted in DSA council. Article includes nothing from these voters. Describing Republicans in Portland as an “endangered species” is a choice.

No ICE facility in Seattle, I just learned

Their ICE facility is in Tacoma and that's too far for most protesters is my best guess, but I'm not sure.

Same problem in Portland! As famously documented in recent days

I suspect it won't be all that dramatic of an event here in town

Why isn't Seattle getting any federal attention? Aren't they sorta weirdos like us?
joanbybike.bsky.social
I think it's a lot more ominous than that. I think it's to occupy and scare left leaning cities before and through mid-terms

I love this question. I think that's just their go-to insult? "We love cops except not those antifa cops!" Etc

This answers one of my questions

Stephen Miller: "The administration will abide by the ruling insofar as it affects the covered parties, but there are also many options the president has to deploy federal resources under the US military to Portland."
