Public health people have to get themselves organized to fight back, otherwise we're toast.

If we don't, the eugenic madness coming from Trump, RFK Jr., Oz, etc is going to kill lots of people.

Here I share some thoughts about how we can start to organize: www.infectiousdose.com/post/from-ev...
From Evidence to Power: Organizing for Public Health with Jon Shaffer, PhD
Sociologist–organizer Jon Shaffer, PhD, joins Infectious Dose to explain why organizing—not just evidence—wins public-health protections, how DPH is building state teams, and what you can do next.

Let the poors get AI slop medicine.

The rich though, can be seen by a physician, say AI boosters.

I have expertise in both the technical and ethical aspects of clinical AI, so one of my most frequent refrains is that we need to separately address questions of "can we?" and "should we?"

Anyway, absolutely not.

I’m telling you: ridicule works. These guys are supposed to intimidate the citizenry and it’s very hard to do that when a guy in a frog suit is just staring you down and daring you to do something that makes it look like you’re afraid of a cartoon

I just ran the PDX half marathon and I can attest that it is not, in fact, burning to the ground.

It’s actually been a beautiful weekend in the Rose City!

"Should Universities work together to fend off the administration's attacks on academic freedom and free speech?" is a key question that rank-and-file faculty (i.e., @aaup.org) are answering in the affirmative and University administrators are mostly shrugging off. Time is running out.

Trump’s proposed “compact” with nine major universities “is extortion, plain and simple,” Erwin Chemerinsky writes in a guest essay. “It is not hyperbole to say that the future of higher education in America requires that every university reject it.”
Opinion | Trump’s ‘Compact’ With Universities Is Just Extortion
There seems to be no limit to the president’s odious attempts to control higher education.

My latest for @msnbc.com, on the recently announced policy of TrumpRx. While reducing prescription drug costs is vital, it's hard to square with other Trump policies that cut against that goal, on top of which the drugs they mentioned would still be too expensive. www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...
Opinion | ‘TrumpRx’ may disappoint Americans hoping to save money on prescriptions
For many Americans, a trip to the pharmacy means the stresses of figuring out which drugs are covered or how to afford those drugs at all.

Olúfẹ́mi is right. It'd be cool if we had a concept for coming up with what class you are based on like how you interact with the stuff that makes all the other stuff, and whether you own it or not.
olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social
I know people on here are scandalized that someone might classify a public school teacher as "working class" because she might have a masters or even PhD in education but can we agree it's at least as weird to call the guy who owns the local Wendy's franchise "working class" because he has a GED?

I really despise everything to do with generative AI.
joolia.bsky.social
I spoke to parents who are letting their young kids play with generative AI and tried to sort through some of the questions they have about it.

"I don’t know what this is doing to their brains," one dad told me.

Meanwhile, Sam Altman says, "Kids love ChatGPT on voicemode."
‘My son genuinely believed it was real’: Parents are letting little kids play with AI. Are they wrong?
Some believe AI can spark their child’s imagination through personalized stories and generative images. Scientists are wary of its affect on creativity

This is the biggest, toughest article I’ve done about so-called “AI psychosis.” It’s the story of a man who committed a horrific crime in his youth but served his time and against all odds found love and a new life—one that completely unraveled after he started talking to Google’s Gemini chatbot.
He Grew Obsessed With an AI Chatbot. Then He Vanished in the Ozarks
Jon Ganz committed a terrible crime in his youth, but he survived prison, fell in love, and started over. His new life unraveled in a way nobody could have predicted.

This is called class/culture warfare. We need to do away with our capitalist experiment and move to democratic socialism so that we ALL benefit from the fruits of our hard earned labor and not just billionaires.

Fascism: assigning blame for all the problems caused by capitalism to minorities in order to defend the interests of the capitalist class.

Et voila.

ER doc here! This is a lie. Wait times are up because the American healthcare system is an unsustainable business model and a for-profit national healthcare system just doesn’t work. These problems will continue to get worse until we change that system. It literally has nothing to do with immigrants

If you read through the article what you'll learn is that these two locations were never licensed to perform abortions. What women are losing is STI testing, cancer screenings, and contraception.

The GOP is targeting every single one of those things.

What justified the security risk of bringing the entire military leadership in one room? To receive the following orders:

- Promotions will be based on Jim Crow-era criteria.
- Do not hesitate to kill, there are no rules of engagement.
- You will execute these orders in US cities against Americans.
