male human wizard with a bald crown but longish back hair and great big bushy silver-gold beard. his robes are unadorned but rich red, wears a simple belt and tough boots, and carries a staff carved to have a serpent god coiled about its length, between the wide wide coils are the symbols of other gods and powers.

Those few years when people attempted golem creation nickname “the wonky years”. Just because they knew the secret doesn’t mean they were successful. You can learn how a car is made but you would probably be unsuccessful in building one in your garden shed.
