Between 1899 and her death, in 1962, the photographer Lora Webb Nichols created and collected some 24,000 negatives documenting life in her small Wyoming town, whose fortunes boomed and then busted along with the region’s copper mines.

It is quite incredible the extent to which Trump is routinely held to a lower standard than every other politician. This would pretty much end the career of any other national leadership candidate in any western democracy, except none would ever do it - at all, still less during a mourning period

Very interesting. Orban took over media in part by channeling govt ads to friendly outlets and starving critical ones. Two independent outlets are challenging that via EU competition policy, as forbidden state aid to favored companies. 1/2 on.ft.com/3GtRPdm

“This week you will read many confused economists and political pundits who won’t understand how the tariffs make economic sense. That’s because they don’t. They aren’t designed as economic policy. The tariffs are simply a new, super dangerous political tool.”
"Sure, the markets aren’t buying Trump’s claims, & economists think what’s happening is insanity, but there seems to be something more insidious at play here."

Appalling victim blaming from the Washington Post.
The decision not to use an interpreter and the power imbalance between the parties, as well as Zelensky’s “warrior energy” due to his position as a wartime leader contributed to the meeting boiling over in such a dramatic way, body language experts said.

The moment you stand up to them, they crumble.

Pretty disturbed by some of the Kremlin framing on the Trump talks being bought by parts of the media worldwide. It’s as if the genesis of the war is entirely forgotten. This isn’t a conflict which needs mediation. It was an unprovoked act of aggression. It could end tomorrow if Putin just withdrew.
