A thing I miss from childhood is coming across stuff that makes no goddam sense (usually in books) and you shrug and think "I guess that's just how the world is."

In The Jungle Books, there are always kites flying overhead. Kipling meant the raptors ofc but there were no birds in my 8yo scenario.
