Loved all incarnations of Diane Keaton, but the elusive Angry Diane Keaton might have been my favorite. RIP.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

It’s a horror show. Packs of guys stumbling down the street literally roaring like zoo animals

Just accidentally spent like 10 minutes in the financial district on a Friday night and my god the drunk bro situation down there might now exceed 2007 levels? Terrifying

Yeah, that's very true. I *think* Friendship was going for an unhinged protagonist in the real world, but it strayed from that for sure. Chair Company is more obviously an absurdist comedy/conspiracy world all the way around, and in that sense it works a bit better

Totally. The thing about Robinson's characters—and this is what makes them genius—is that you can tell within a few seconds of meeting them who they are and what their damage is. They're all signifiers. You don't need to watch them develop. And the plot can only ever be ancillary to the guy

I love Tim Robinson, and I like The Chair Company—which, at its best, feels kind of like Curb Your Enthusiasm for the 40-something suburban conspiracy dad. But I'm starting to suspect longform narrative is not his strong suit.

HBO's comic thriller casts co-creator Tim Robinson as an extremely online, Middle American version of Larry David

Just got a whole press release devoted to Taylor's mention of a show in a late-night interview. Enough! There are other people in the world.

For spooky season, let's not forget the time when Hollywood Reporter released the found footage of Nic Pizzolatto trapped at the Blair Witch house.

I absolutely despised Monster: The Ed Gein Story, but not as much as Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan hate their audience (and potentially themselves?)

The fact they jumped straight to AI actors modeled after women when, if I’m not mistaken, male actors are a higher labor cost kind of says it all doesn’t it,

Having trouble letting go of my anger about my doctor going concierge. Seems like, on top of everything else that's galling about healthcare in this country, we're heading for a system where primary care covered by insurance is as much a mirage as therapy covered by insurance (also unacceptable btw)

Extremely good month for TV (and nothing else). You probably know about The Lowdown, Task, Wayward... but hear me out on Mussolini: Son of the Century, an expressionist take on the rise of original-recipe fascism that is both a remarkable work of art and a harrowing mirror of our reality

Trump just announced a 100% tariff on foreign movies—five months after he last announced he was going to do it and Hollywood freaked it and no one was ever able to pin down how a tariff on a film would even work. New post provides no further details.
Trump Truth Social post, May, 4, 2025:
Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death. Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other areas within the U.S.A., are being devastated. This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda! Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands. WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN! Trump Truth Social post, Sept. 29, 2025: Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing “candy from a baby.” California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit! Therefore, in order to solve this long time, never ending problem, I will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DJT

Horrible news about Kaleb Horton. I didn't know him personally, but I read enough of his work to be certain he must've been a good person as well as one of the most insightful writers out there.

Really! I would not have guessed that to look at them.

Things are going so poorly in the US, British baking competitions feel emboldened to gaslight us about what flapjacks are
judyberman.bsky.social
Yeah, that's always been the case and I've kind of gotten used to it. But subtitles/CC that are 5+ seconds out of sync with the dialogue, in either direction, have rarely been a problem for me until now
