This threatened military action directly contradicts what Secretaries Rubio and Hegseth told my Senate colleagues and I today about the mission and goals of their operations in the Caribbean. 1/2

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

NEW — I dug into the story of ICE abducting a 13-year-old boy in Massachusetts and moving him 500 miles across state lines without notifying his mother, local cop's complicity, and how the federal government's justification for such cruelty is already falling apart:
ICE took a 13-year-old they said had a gun. Local cops say he didn’t.
Now he's detained 500 miles away from his Massachusetts home.

ICE just blatantly violated the law and arrested sitting Chicago Alderperson Jessie Fuentes while seeking to illegally arrest a patient in a hospital. Fuck these fascists.

So, basically, Pete wants a white, male, Christian nationalist military that is comfortable with war crimes at home and abroad (and that has high grooming standards), and if you're not OK with that, then you can resign.

Interesting to see how the Generals respond. Do they ignore it, or push back?
Hegseth: "We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement."

Bowing down to a bully never works.

And we can’t become numb to this corruption in plain sight.

I cut the cord with streaming services a few months ago and bought my favorite movies on dvd (mostly for $1-5 at second hand stores). If you also tend to rewatch the same shows and movies and don’t want to lose them, go old school!

BREAKING: The Pentagon has authorized up to 600 military lawyers to serve as temporary immigration judges.

This is a blatant expansion of military power into a civilian judicial process, a dangerous erosion of the separation between the two.

Every day, we inch closer to fascism.

Curtail? Congress and SCOTUS have willingly handed over power to the president.
“Donald Trump has figured out the cheat code for authoritarianism: Fake emergencies bring real power,” @rosenzweigp.bsky.social argues. Yet more troubling is the lack of effort from Congress or the courts to curtail the use of such “emergency” powers:
Trump Is Inventing Fake Emergencies to Gain Real-World Power
Today, the structure of law granting exceptional emergency powers is a grave threat to democracy and an avenue toward authoritarian rule.

Trump is illegally ripping away bipartisan funding approved by Congress.

Today, it's defunding efforts to end hunger and sickness.

Tomorrow, it could be abolishing the Education Dept.

Republicans can’t be trusted to honor a budget deal while they’re rigging government funding.

Make a public comment NOW. It only takes a couple of minutes.

This senseless and cruel change will absolutely destroy our ability to attract the world's most brilliant scholars, and for no clear reason. Say something now
I know there's a lot happening today, but this is sneaking in under the radar. This proposed new rule would absolutely crush foreign PhD students, potentially making it impossible for them to enroll with any certainty of their ability to finish www.politico.com/news/2025/08...

This feels like a scene out of The Office
Trump: “It looks like it’s about $3.1 billion…”

Powell: “I’m not aware of that.”

Trump: “It just came out.”

Powell: “You are including the Martin renovation. You just added in a third building.”

Trump: “It’s a building that's being built.”

Powell: “No, it was built five years ago.”
