Specifically, I experienced censorship in the reporting of our research because of agency concerns that it did not appear to fully support preconceived narratives of my agency’s leadership about ultra-processed food addiction.

More updates on what’s happening to federally funded US science. Roughly the same magic touch Trump has brought to world trade, actually.

Today’s examples are on drug-resistant gonorrhea and vaccine approvals, both of which are going to hell.

Haha, super interesting, that would be a good one to include!

Yes I’ll post here as well!
Great ideas. Would be awesome to do a larger funded effort

I’d love to be able to a video per week, but prob can’t swing it working alone.

I’m planning a video series on the wonders of everyday medicines, from ibuprofen to prostaglandin analogs, to help point out biological innovations taken for granted (subtext: how NIH funding helps everybody)

Looking for help w research and scripting, or just ideas for what to cover & why!

Really important piece to share widely. Too many Americans don’t know how severe a threat this Administration poses to our scientific infrastructure, global leadership, and health security

Young researchers are choosing between staying in science and staying in the United States.

Even if that were somehow true, it wouldn’t be comforting to know that a journalist can just scheme their way into White House communications🙄

Gee, I wonder what that study on vaccines and autism will show www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...
"Geier and his father, Mark Geier, have published papers claiming vaccines increase the risk of autism, a theory that has been studied for decades and scientifically debunked."

I haven’t seen any good data, but there are probably a ton of bots. Still plenty of accounts that I know to be real humans too!

I know Twitter sucks but it’s a *great* time to try to spread messages about harms to US science to non-academics

Glad to see this post getting some traction, because the Federal Register is the WHOLE ballgame, folks. To drive this point home, a recent EO declares that all posts to FR now must be approved by the White House. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Cuts to the NIH are a strategy to strangle research universities not “reduce waste”
Graphic from United for Medical Research showing that NIH funding produces $2.46 in economic activity for every $1.00 awarded Graphic from United for Research showing that NIH funding produced over $92B in economic activity in FY 2023 Graphic from United for Research showing that $914M in NIH grants to Florida institutions supported 14,688 jobs and produced $2.78B in economic activity

It is indeed my understanding that most research institutions won't survive if this is implemented. I know I will contact my congress and senate members.

Took me 3 minutes to call both of my Senators and my representative. Just do it.

I hate phone calls, and I have GOP reps, but I made the calls: "It's unconstitutional--Congress has the power of the purse. I urge Senator Curtis to oppose this power grab. Even if he agrees about certain funds, it's not worth abandoning the checks and balances at the foundation of our republic."

I know you hate this advice. I know you hear it all the time, but for gods sake you need to be calling your congressperson. Now. Today.

If you have a GOP representative, you need to call and ask if they approve of stripping congress of its constitutional authority. If they like being powerless.

TLDR; Cell Painting as a phenotypic readout in whole-genome CRISPR screens is very informative, cheap per cell, & we find some interesting biology!

Our study published today on #bioRxiv describe the identification of a deaminase that converts 5mC to T, enabling direct sequencing of the human methylome and genome. This achievement was made possible through a collaborative effort across all departments at #NEB.
