same deal with law right now. there are lots of tools that *would* be super helpful if they were reliable, but given the acceptable error rate is zero and so you have to check all their outputs anyway, you may as well just do it the old fashioned way.
suspect a big reason why many academics and others who work in areas where getting facts RIGHT is key are disinterested in using LLMs for research:
they’ve tried it, they keep noticing major errors in output, and they conclude that having to verify all that doesn’t actually save them time.

the replies to this post are deranged. i too am frustrated by the demise of ad-supported media and unbundling of publication such that you need to pay every writer you like directly, but i never realized how many people think promoting paywalled content is somehow unethical?

just noticed samberg is wearing a john muir elementary shirt in this, a detail that meant nothing to me 20 years ago!
i remember thinking “Virgin” was an honorific of some kind and asking my mother why mary got be the Virgin but joseph didn’t get anything special, and then she had to explain to me what a virgin was

It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

while i am glad people are ditching spotify and glad many are considering qobuz (a platform i’ve used for years and which seems to be run by people who actually like music) the reason it has the highest per-stream rate is because it is expensive and has relatively few users (and thus streams). sorry
