In June I handed in my notice. “I’m leaving in July” “Oh…” “It was a long time coming. My job didn’t suck but it didn’t spark joy. I was starting to get RSD and I didn’t trust that they would try to help.” (Visual of sewing) “But I’ll miss my colleagues.” (A colleague asks) “I heard you’re leaving. What made you decide?” I respond “death by a thousand cuts” while holding a jumper on my hands. “What made me decide?” I ask “hey could you get someone to remove the mould?” (Mouldy walls in the background) And off screen colleague says “we removed it!” I look behind me and it’s still there. “Um…” “There are only so many times I can complain about legitimate health concerns only to be lied to. Visual of me sitting leaning on a hand looking out of a window with trees in the background. “I’ve been itching for a while… to go. It’s funny how you get stuck places. I meant to leave after a couple of years and now it’s been six.” I scratch my face sweating a little. “ it it’s time for a new chapter. And I’m starting to feel like dwelling on my problematic job is akin to picking any other mental scab. So what will I Julie the textile designer come comic artist do now?” “Well I have this friend in Rome I’ve meant to visit for years… so my plan…” I am floating above a map with dots, a bike and a finish line. “Is to cycle from Frankfurt to Rome!” I’m sitting at a table wheeling a tiny bike. “This is not my first bike-packing stint. I cycled around the Baltic Sea after university.” I point at a map showing my route. Glasgow to Harwich, hook of Holland to Stockholm to Estonia then back to Dunkirk. I stand in front of the map with a stick pointing towards Italy. “And I’m really interested in seeing what’s going on in this gap of countries I’ve never visited.” “So the plan is to leave in late august and get to Rome by early October.” I sit surrounded by loose comic pages. “I’m going to try to keep a comic diary as I travel so keep an eye out to read my adventure as they happen!

Corry hates himself. Vrekan is a physical manifestation of Corry’s self image.
Corry unwittingly drags him into a horrible situation culminating in the death of a friend.
Corry needs to learn how to accept himself quick for the sake of everyone he cares about.

Panel 2 - Corry clenches the doorframe, bruised knuckles visible. Panel 3 - A grimace on his face, he’s sweating Panel 4 - Walking through the entrance, he acts like everything is fine. He greets Susan with a “morning susan!” Susan, looking down at her work, says “That's an interesting way of saying good afternoon, Corry” Corry responds sheepishly “Ah, sorry.” Panel 5 - Susan continues - “Luckily, we are still ahead thanks to your stint the other night.” Corry - ”thanks… I can't seem to keep track of my time these days (he's looking away, stressed and ashamed.) Panel 6 - Susan finally notices Corry's nose when she looks up. She exclaims “Corry! Your face! What happened?” Corry rubbing the back of his neck while gesturing calmingly with the other hand says “Ah.. A wall, it was the most ridiculous thing, walked right into it!”

Corry keeps waking up in strange places with no memory. He lives in fear of the hatred that will follow if anyone learns his dark secret, he is cursed. One day he is kidnapped by a crew of queer pirates who upturn everything Corry ever believed to be true.

(10/-) the ALPS! Day 20-23
Day 20 of the “I quit my job and started cycling to Rome” series. I went do I saw some very cool mountains? I met a very cute small kitten. I had to build a lean too and I made a cricket friend. Day 21 of my series I found a really bridge. I had to cycle up a huge hill. There was major headwind stopping me from going fast and I appreciated more mountains while crossing the border to Italy. Day 22 I quit my job and started cycling I saw a cool lizard, cycled through a cool tunnel I appreciated monasteries on the top of mountains but did not visit them because I did not want to go to the top of the mountain. While collecting water for myself. I made friends with a farmer who gave me a bunch of apples. And I appreciated more mountains. Day 22 of my I quit my job and started cycling to Rome series. While camping at night, I was sitting in my hammock and was running to buy a wild boar. Spend the rest of the evening worrying it would come back but luckily it did not.

Day 17 of cycle to rom comic Ingolstadt to Munich. It rains so I don’t leave early, i sees hoops farm which is really strange looking, I buy ice cream from the vending machine, I make it to Munich, I clean my clothes in the shower to save money, I meet a traveler called allex. Day 19 of cycling to Rome comic. I reach the alps and am concerned, they turn out not to be that bad, I like the buildings, I buy a second tarpaper to keep myself dry, I chill in my camping spot. A map of my cycle route through France and a list of animals I saw. A map of my cycle journey through Germany and a list of the animals I saw.

(8/-) hanging with my German friends 🥰
Day 13 of cycling to Rome comic I share a meal the Laura parents, we got tricked by crappy Google navigation again, had a lunch out, Laura attacked her brother with seed pods, we cycled home singing lion king, I fixed my bike, I noticed my legs are getting definition. Day 14 of cycling to one comic, cycling to bamberg. Laura has an e-bike so she always takes us over uphills, Laura was sad the river cycle didn’t have a good view, silke’s friend, Clara let us stay over, we saw a journeyman and looked around the city. Day 15 of cycling to Rome comic. We cycled along a picturesque canal, said bye to Laura, Silke had a silly waterproof outfit, we got soaked, silkes other friend, Lena let us stay outside of Nuremberg, I worried about how dirty stuff was, Lena gave me direction advice. Day 16 of cycle to Rome comic. Said goodbye to Silke, saw a bunch of sheep on the side of a canal, the rain started sooner than I expected, had a massive hill, I camped in a not sneaky spot.

Day 11 of my cycle to Rome comic. I realise I stink, bathe naked in the Rhine, make it to Frankfurt, cheat and take the train to my friends house, greet them. Day 12 of the cycle to Rome comic. I am relieved to have a bed again, Make language jokes with the Germans that go down very well, we go to a hippie party, Silke and Laura make requests of how I draw them in the comic, we sleep after the party.
