Happy to see the historically “scandalous” Rhinelander marriage and divorce getting new attention. It’s emblematic of America’s tortured history with race. “A Revelation Tore Apart Her Fairy-Tale Marriage, and Shocked the Nation” www.nytimes.com/2025/12/17/m...

10 years ago I wrote about the making of The Princess Bride, one of my favourite films. With the death of its director, Rob Reiner, I wanted to share it again. There is no better way to remember him than with a story of true love.

I’m eight and a half books deep in a series I’m loving. But today I hit a scene that scares me it’s going to jump the shark. 😩 (I’ve got to trust the author but 😬)

This post that a friend of my partner's shared on FB potentially explains the Kristin Chenoweth thing, and is frightening.

Does being sacked then rehired impact any of an employees benefits? Eg length of service?

If I was to watch the Quiet Place movies for the first time, is it better to do it in release order or to start with Day 1?

Halfway through the open-for-pitches period! You've got a fortnight more to think about an essay topic and propose it to the journal!
If you have Thoughts you'd like to turn into an essay, SI is now open to essay pitches!

Deep-dive into one book
or examine a theme
or muse about an author's oeuvre...

Every time I get a gray hair I remember that one of my stem cells is like, “the working conditions here are awful and I am done.” And I respect that, from a labor perspective.

Quick reminder that if you see a headline from a source you’ve never heard of that isn’t being reported by anyone else, you really should do some due diligence before spreading it around as fact. There’s enough misinformation floating around already; no need to add more.

I’ve always said the grandbaby has Hollywood Hair. She wakes up with these beautiful sort curls that you’d pay a fortune for. But she hates getting it brushed and she’s had the big chop.

Folks, celebrate your friends. I know you probably know this, but it's easy to forget. Take joy in their successes and cheer on their moments in the sun, and always let them know they make your life better. It matters.

Yesterday I had to forego my morning coffee because I was fasting for an op. So today I have been hanging out for Brett to bring me a good coffee from home today. Only for the power company to message and say they have a planned power outage and it won’t be restored until 3:00pm! 😩 #NotFair

Pro tip: Don’t ever tie a business or organisation’s subscription to an employee’s personal phone number or email. At least make sure some contact point is tied to the organisation 😩
