For those keeping score, Bellingcat, The New York Times Visual Investigation Team, & Washington Post's Visual Forensic team have all published analysis showing the ICE shooter wasn't in the path of Renee Nicole Good’s vehicle when he shot her, contradicting statements by the President & his cronies

I know we’re all devastated by the news out of Minnesota, where ICE executed a woman in broad daylight. It was this picture of Renee Nicole Good’s glove compartment—filled with stuffed animals—that put me over the edge.

After the assassination of Melissa Hortman it’s not hard to understand why a woman in Minnesota would be afraid of a man in a mask who says he’s a cop.

??? Apparently Venezuela oil revenues will go into “offshore accounts” outside of the US Treasury, PBS reports.

Right. The point is not “it matters extra because it’s a citizen,” the point is “we either hang together or we will all hang separately.”
i think it is ok to reiterate that the victim as a us citizen. yes, noncitizens are equally entitled to human rights. but also, it's important to illustrate how ice isn't about immigration at all

Or even just the boring, announcement-y kinda stuff that currently goes on Twitter. Citizens should be able to get notifications from their government without having to deal with MECHAHITLER and AI-generated CSAM, ya know?

The end goal of Grok sexual harassment is to make women afraid to be visible. It’s a punishment for daring to exist in a way the perpetrators can’t control. There’s no one solution to this, because the problem isn’t just technological. It’s cultural. It’s misogyny. This is just one expression of it.

Strange how it is just accepted that these private citizens who operate oil companies are definitely going ahead with profiting off all this for years to come—and not being publicly ridiculed and shamed. It’s almost like our gov is designed to shield rich people from accountability.

The trouble, as @charity.wtf likes to remind me, is that those of us who program for work are not being paid to maximise our fun, we are being paid to produce a product as efficiently as possible.

So at some point the people who got into programming for fun, may wind up leaving our field.

one of my recent preoccupations is the visceral hostility the MAGA right has for the histories and traditions of the United States. these are people who spit on the Declaration and salute third-rate European despots!
It's striking that progressives like Tim Walz and Zohran Mamdani evoke the middle American attitude that, "Yes, we can fix these social problems because we're Americans and it's the right thing to do!" While the "America first" right only emulates failed and failing nation-states elsewhere.

"Why forgo all these opportunities to get in front of huge audiences and defend feminism? Because to participate would be accepting the premise that our rights and humanity are up for debate. Once you concede that it’s reasonable to ask whether women’s rights are a good thing, you’ve already lost."

In 1954, what was then called the Food News Dept of The New York Times released a pamphlet called “Soups,” which had 20 recipes for soups “thick and thin, hot and cold."

I'm creating a free zine called "Soups" and am soliciting for recipes. It will be publicly available and printable as an 8up.

A HUGE thank you to all the folks who have been taking a chance on @teamlanes.com — our first iteration, our second iteration, our third iteration... All your input and feedback goes into how and why we're settling on the right kind of place to work and share together online in the open.
The teams that enjoyed real-time sync had far less stickiness with the product than teams who expressed overwhelm with existing real-time systems. It might make sense to call a non real-time collab system "slower" but overall velocity didn't seem impacted. It's not "slower", it's "more intentional."

The article accepts the idea that New College was a liberal enclave, and what is happening now is a rebalancing. I think this view is fundamentally wrong, embracing the assumptions of those who see their job as to save campuses from liberalism by any means necessary.

Essentially, I think that LLM-generated dialogue only makes sense if you believe that the product of writing is words.

But the product of writing isn't words, any more than the product of justice is prisoners, or the product of love is weddings. The product of writing is meaning.

The more I spend away from social media, the more I feel connected to my creative work. I do miss it, the connectedness of it all, a sense of belonging to something greater than myself, even if much of it not so much something anyone can belong to than it is a story we all tell ourselves.

One theory I have is that competence, self-control, responsibility, and expertise have all been feminized, leaving “masculinity” with the realm of impulsivity and petulance. So the divide is not really between “femininity” and “masculinity” so much as between adulthood and childishness.
Everything else aside, the idea that this is a model for many men of *masculinity* is so wild. This? This is "manly"? This is how people think it's cool to act?
