Y'know, when I was a younger (in mileage/experience) artist, I thought the hard part about hands would be their joints/articulation.

Naw the hard part is deciding how much hand wrinkles to keep/omit in your art style.

I was just yesterday composing a similar manifesto. My version of point 1 is "you are the only guaranteed audience for the comic, so make a comic you like" and point 4 is "if someone else enjoys your comic, you probably won't ever know."

I've been thinking a lot about comics lately and the craft and calling of making them. So I wrote myself a comics manifesto. Please comment, share, steal, or disregard.

I used to believe Internet Comics was a meritocracy and most stuff would naturally find its audience. I don't think that's true, but I do believe if you can find and cultivate your own unique voice, you stand a much better chance of succeeding (by whatever metric you like).

be less afraid to create clumsy comics. awkward tangents. amateur lettering. weird sequentials and pacing. You Can Just Make it. you dont need to be trapped in a cycle of perfectionism and imposter syndrome when you could have a finished work instead. print that thing out and staple it!!!

This applies to artists too!!

This is why sites like kofi or cara or anywhere don't allow sexual images, it's the credit card's fault, so sign this if you either draw NSFW, or know anyone who does

Applications close tomorrow at 11:59pm EST so get your apps in and draw some sharks for this last volume of Swim On!
https://topazcomics.com/swimon/apply/
Swim On is open for applications! This is a charity zine dedicated to shark preservation & all proceeds go to finfree.org

This will be the final zine. After 10 volumes I thought this was a good number to stop on. Let's make it the best one!
