There’s no hip hop without NYC.
There’s no techno without Detroit.
There’s no EDM without Chicago.
There’s no disco without NYC.
There’s no metal without Detroit.
There’s no rock without Chicago.

None would exist without Black people making music there, be they from the US or the Caribbean.

108 years ago, the US military carried out the largest mass execution in American history. In December 1917, the military hanged 13 soldiers. Another 6 were hanged less than a year later.

Yes...they were all Black soldiers.

It's best known as the Houston Riot of 1917

"Democrats will never fully support disabled people because disability is the antithesis of capitalism. It requires we take a step back from always making a profit when it comes to the lives of people who can produce no profit outside of extraction from our for-profit healthcare system."

100% this.

I am on team ‘help teach your Mama to swim’. I may get cussed out teaching but she lives in a flooding 🌀 zone and I don’t. Am I good? I make do.

She won’t do lessons with a stranger. Plus my teach did the ‘throw the kid in the deep end’ trick then had to jump in/pull me out when I sank. I got sick.
You know, for the amount of black folk that don’t know how to swim, you’d think we’d have a healthy fear of water. But no – a pool party, a beach, a cruise, we will find a big body of water to be in and around

Time for more investigative eyes on it and labels to get illuminated. Of course trans rights were attacked and then they came for the disabled.

History is rhyming real loud.
🧵 Okay so yesterday's vote has me needing to share something.

I've been tracking these 8 Democratic senators for months, and yesterday's surrender on healthcare wasn't surprising—it was predictable.

Let me show you why:

Well I went looking and this should be a bigger news item than it is. Same company was warned to clean up its processing 3y ago over Cronobacter sakazakii contamination. ByHeart destroyed a few cases then but shipped out the rest without proper testing by the looks of it.
On November 8, 2025, ByHeart Inc. recalled two lots of Whole Nutrition Infant Formula:

Lot: 206VABP/251261P2
("Use by 01 Dec 2026")
Lot: 206VABP/251131P2
("Use by 01 Dec 2026")

Curious, this stuff expires in 3 weeks, that’s a very narrow window. There’s gotta be more to this.

In Italy labor unions helped start a network of left-leaning news/music radio stations that have become some of the staples of public information in much of the country. They now run on a donation / ads model, but initial investment was from labor. I think about this often.
The AFL-CIO should start throwing some money towards labor journalism. If it was done right (i.e. with them accepting that journalists must have full editorial control over what’s published, whether or not union leaders like what they have to say) it could really have such a hugely positive impact

Ah yes from the exalted Chronicles of Pimp chapter 20 verse 8 on gathering errant haters as a good shepherd tends an unruly flock.

Jokes aside that comedy special turns 20 next year. D. Smith was 7 when it dropped. I better put them knee patches on now.

tbh, the US supreme court not budging on gay marriage is great, but also this happening while codifying anti-abortion and anti-trans laws is either strategic in the face of opposition or an example of the project of homonationalist integration, at a time where fascist parties have cis LGB leaders

New Orleans & New York are undefeated. There’s just too much amazing, approachable, and affordable food in NYC. I am unapologetically biased obvs. Vietnamese is superior in New Orleans.

If only they would clean their own house. Get their people to put down the red hat and pickup a red bandana. Rednecks weren’t always about rolling coal pickups and feeding the capitalist pigs their families. Their clawing at proximity to power is cooking us all.

A civilization so virulently misogynist it wasn’t cheating but an egregious class violation. Moicheia focused on sex with a free woman/citizen.

Raping slaves? 🆗
Sex with prostitutes? 🆗
Seducing a 👰🏽 citizen? Justifiable homicide, humiliation, and/or abuse were all righteous.

Note: Not a scholar
This is where they invented cheating, baby.
Even in Greek Mythology, men can’t stop cheating, I just…

Lord have mercy the Supreme Court is hearing oral argument rn in an appeal from a case I wrote about last year

it's undisputed that Damon Landor suffered a *brazen* violation of his legal rights, yet the GOP justices sound skeptical that he can actually sue the prison guards who violated his rights
Louisiana prison guards subjected Damon Landor to horrible treatment--none of the judges who heard his case dispute that

Nor do they contest the flagrant illegality of the guards’ abuse

But they're divided on whether Damon—and the courts—can do anything about it

Federal Court: Prison Guards Forcibly Shaving a Rastafarian’s Head Is Someone Else’s Problem
A Fifth Circuit decision prohibited guards from cutting Damon Landor’s hair. He gave them a copy. They literally threw it in the trash.

The US Department of Health and Human Services last month laid off almost the entire office that administers Title X, the nearly $300 million government program providing birth control and other family planning services to 2.8 million low-income patients a year.
