My dad's been trying to persuade me to join him (he usually goes to church by himself) but I left Catholicism a very, very long time ago! It feels inappropriate for me to be there in their sacred community space if I think god don't real

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

The Ig Nobel is incredible , one year an Indian guy won it for calculating the average surface area of an elephant and during his acceptance they had an elephant hold up a sign with the surface area of the scientist on it, they do showbiz better than the Oscars

in turn, parents who also experienced childhood emotional neglect inflict the same pain on their children. they don't know how to be nurturing, loving, understanding, because they were not shown that sort of care themselves. they parent the way they were parented

my thinking is that with the invention of the nuclear family unit, parents are isolated in their efforts to raise their kids and so don't get nearly enough help from their families or communities. they become exhausted and their wells of empathy run dry. too busy and tired to be nurturing
