It's interesting how, while running a tcg company is inherently capitalist, Yugioh took the socialist mindset of, "if a card is defacto necessary for a meta, we'll print it until it's dirt cheap".
My competitively viable deck cost me like $65, compared to mtg, where an EDH deck is easy $300+

I said I'd post about it, well here's some of that! I've been studying modern competitive yugioh, and built a deck around these critters called the "Yummys". They're super adorable, so much so that I can't help but draw some of them. I started off with "Yummy Snatchy", a lollipop alien kitty. :)

Happy new year. I propose we change the calendar for 2026 to remove July and August. Caesar was a bitch, and 10 months alternating 36-37 days is way cooler and makes more sense. 😤

I'm currently on a Yugioh kick, so expect me to post a lot about it in the coming days. I am working on a full literary analysis of Duel Kingdom right now, and have some fun things to say about the show, the game, and tcg politics.

The ancients having the patience to do naked-eyed astronomy to discover planetary motion seems preposterous if one has not seen that night sky, and inevitable if one has
I think people today don't understand just how dramatically the night sky has changed - it looked like it does in super remote areas *everywhere* before the invention of electric lighting, and light pollution that obscures the sky has gotten dramatically worse in the last 25 years.
If you ever have the experience of seeing a night sky out in the deep countryside you can understand this; it really is a fundamentally different experience, and I can't imagine it not being formative to people.

"average person counts ℵ₀ sets a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average person counts 0 sets per year. Georg Cantor, who lives in cave & counts over ℵₐ each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

I don't think people ask enough questions anymore. Everyone is too caught up in their own shit, and everything is instant gratification or bust. Something that makes you stop and think for a minute is just going to be disregarded. Sure seems like that was the plan too.

Since I'm always alone on Christmas, I like to spend it in places with other people who are alone for the holidays. I often trawl around whatever online games I'm invested in at the time and give out gifts if the game has that function.

Everyone made such a big deal about Winnie the Pooh becoming part of the public domain, but how come I didn't hear a THING about Popeye becoming public domain on january 1st of 2025??
Infinite untapped potential tbh.

It's funny that there was this whole study to find out if apes could rewrite Hamlet by Shakespeare... As if humans aren't apes, and made Hamlet already.

strongly feel that a lot of issues impacting artists (and a lot of others too) right now (mergers, genAI, whatever) are merely symptoms of corporate greed. the animation industry's job bleed was kicked off long before covid by mergers and has been allowed to snowball ever since

premier internet brainrot here by way of our Word 98 install, the save-to-postscript feature of the printer driver, and `ps2pdf` out on the real machine

Yknow what site ACTUALLY could use your donations right now? The wayback machine. That has been such a monumental tool for preserving history and serving justice, and it's clear the internet our government wants has no place for putting such power in the hands of the people.

This is why my situation perturbs me. To "make it" as an entertainer/creator of sorts, you need to have some level of audience.
Something inherent to a creator/audience dynamic is an imbalance of power. I want my audience to know that they are just as cool as whoever is on camera.
one idea in religion which seems extremely suspect is that any all-knowing being should be attracted to hierarchy, when only the most morally damaged humans are drawn to power over others. cops. the wealthy. most of us find learning from one another and helping one another much more attractive.

I think there is something to be said about a difference between cringe and poor taste. Poor execution, whether due to context, timing, or capability, can make something derivative either fall flat, be offensive, or even be considered "theft".
December 12, 2025 at 6:36 AM
That all being said, I have an issue with my own dreams tasting sour. My mentality that no one is free until everyone is free really holds me back from wanting anything for myself, for if I do, it feels selfish. Even if my motive for success is so I have more bandwidth to help others.
December 12, 2025 at 6:09 AM
It is said that the type of creature I am feasts on dreams, or memories. I think that paints a terrible picture of the reality of it.
It's more like dreams and memories radiate energy, especially when nurtured, and we feast on that energy that would otherwise go to waste in the environment.

People getting back from a con, "how did I get sick?!?! D:"
>Nobody masks anymore
>You went on multiple planes and through multiple airports
>It's flu season
>You spent a weekend in close proximity with hundreds of people from around the country

I don't see how people are surprised.

Why and when did big corporations go from "providing a solid service to immense numbers of people", to... "Petty phishing scammers, on an absurd scale"?

What if, every time we almost died, we actually DID die, but our consciousness moved over to an adjacent timeline where we didn't? Within the limitations of the body of course, like, if they're all dead around that time, it seems the consciousness can only move forwards.

christmas has gotten so far from its religious roots, wish we could celebrate our holidays like medieval christians (cross-dressing, being told by the bishop to stop cross-dressing, resolutely refusing to stop cross-dressing, threatening the bishop in defense of cross-dressing)
