The tunnels are cross borough transport infrastructure. Why can’t TfL take responsibility rather than just one borough fighting for funding from another? Can’t they adjust LIP funding to the three boroughs to cover costs? Something must be done!

"With high numbers of families in temporary housing, wouldn’t it make much more sense to reserve some of this prime land for the council to build social housing on? At the very least one of these car parks should be kept for council homes instead of selling them off for peanuts.”

Greenwich Foot Tunnel should be a KEY Thames crossing - but with the North Side lift broken for months, disabled people, parents with prams, and cyclists say they're being cut off from jobs, family and everyday life.

Londoners slam broken foot tunnel lifts dividing north and south of Thames
A residents’ campaign group says years of neglect have left the tunnel lifts unreliable, unsafe, and excluding the most vulnerable

Unfortunately it is not the "how" that is in debate here, it is the need to convince TfL to take over the Tunnels. It may be that some Statutory Instrument has to be laid down in the Commons to transfer ownership but that would only be if TfL agreed to take them over.

TfL may not be interested in taking on the foot tunnels but they are critical infrastructure providing a resilient way for people to cross the river east of tower bridge under their own steam. If TfL can build Silvertown Tunnel for people with cars then they can provide lifts for people on foot.

Not sure Riverlinx (nor TfL) should charge for walking through this tunnel. Surely poor PR for the mayor when he’s encouraging active travel.
