Ilmastonmuutos on kirkkaasti pahin uhka, jonka kohtaamme.

Me vain näemme itsemme heikkona. Meillähän on käynnissä maailman paras rauhaa ja kansalaisten hyvinvointia edistävä projekti EU:n muodossa, mutta olemme unohtaneet, mistä siinä on perustaltaan kyse. Emme näe vahvuuksiamme maailmassa, joka on taas

At peak US had 12 000 troops in Greenland. Now it has 150. It could add to that number relatively easily and legally, it dosent. All that "strategic need" is bs
Absolutely true, and somehow not-discussed point:

The US **ALREADY** has all the strategic advantages it could gain by "owning" Greenland. Through treaties and (until now) close NATO cooperation w Denmark

The US has a naval base & 'space force' base there. You see USAF planes at Grndlnd airports
The thing that’s so dumb about this is that there’s nothing legitimate about the strategic importance of Greenland that the US doesn’t get through existing alliances. Denmark isn’t impeding US strategic interests. It’s about them wanting to increase US land area by 20%.

7/ If Greenland is lost this way, more losses will follow. In 2014, we, Ukrainians, were forced to give up Crimea under the pressure from the US to avoid confrontation and war. Crimea was lost, and war still came. This is not a problem you solve by sending angry letters or by giving up

4/ In reality, Europe has many levers, financial, economic, and security related. Last but not least, it has military forces that could be deployed to Greenland. The purpose would not be to win a war, but to make a Crimean style annexation impossible

2/ Attempts by U.S. officials to question Denmark’s territorial integrity are shocking to many Europeans. However, after watching what Trump has been doing to Ukraine, trying to extract resources through so called mineral agreements after years of partnership, this should not come as a surprise.

some people love quoting "the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must." That was Athens saying that at the height of its empire. Few of those people seem to remember what happened to Athens the very next year.

Trump’s mental model is not geopolitical; it's property development & litigation. His incentives are personal dominance, short-term wins, visible leverage, avoidance of constraint. Dismantling a rules-based order increases his latitude, even if it reduces America’s.

He explains it alluding to their incompetence (distribute to supporters v hogging it all):

They don’t understand how power works b/c they don’t really have any of it. They can only experience it by getting away with a lie or cheating or destruction

Thus the continual chaos…my analysis anyway
It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

The venn diagram of people who defended "good Russians" as a bunch of smol beans who can't do anything meaningful and Americans who balk at the idea that we bear responsibility for our government is almost a perfect circle
the thing about being a "good" American (or "good" Russian) is that it really is on us to prove it, they don't have to accept it, and if that in any way influences how you choose to act or react, it kind of proves their point

That's exactly the playbook they ran with trans people. Getting fans folks fired from jobs, doxing, harassment, death threats etc. There's an entire cottage industry of right wing influencers who do this for clout and money.
The end goal of Grok sexual harassment is to make women afraid to be visible. It’s a punishment for daring to exist in a way the perpetrators can’t control. There’s no one solution to this, because the problem isn’t just technological. It’s cultural. It’s misogyny. This is just one expression of it.

The level of losing touch with reality here...
Insanity: Sources close to the White House told the Washington Post Trump lost interest in backing Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado to lead the country because she accepted her Nobel Peace Prize rather than demanding it be given to Trump, which was viewed as an “ultimate sin.”

A very simple observation about the consequences of an entirely unpredictable superpower: The uncertainty itself means that many if not all countries will have to prepare for bad scenarios. That probably means armaments across the world and regional arms races. Hegemonic instability.
