Up until about 3-4 years ago, I would still teach some cram school classes or help out a friend at a cram school. I loved pointing out to the students that if they were under the age of 13, I had been in Japan longer than they had. Little minds blown! 🤯

I also realize that there's a very real chance that this "kid" is now married with his own kids by now, which is a really nice thought. And also I feel...despair! 😂

I had this experience with a 2nd year middle school student once... "Matt先生, what does cream pie mean?" "It's a dessert." "What else does it mean?" "If you know, why are you asking?" Little heathens! All of 'em! 🤣

I always follow up by explaining aiming for less specific to more specific generally works 😅 I've often been tempted to translate a goof/malaprop character in a game by using adjectives out of order.

I think you'd hafta be consuming adult entertainment to come across it or at least some dating sims with heavy petting. 中出し is still the term anyone would know. Not sure if cream pie is still being used after the English fashion; I haven't come across it recently, so it may've come & gone already.

I'm not sure how common it is, but "cream pie" did make the jump in katakana with the sexual meaning. It's not as common, but I recall coming across it as early as 2011. Had some junior high students had been taught it by their older brothers, which was such a delight.

For everything you're including, it sounds like you did some really smart shopping to boot! $10k indicates good money management & some lucky breaks to me. Moving from southern Japan to an apartment in Tokyo cost me over half that.

Bone! I read it all in b&w and loved it. I know the creator originally wanted to do it in color, so I understand him making colored versions later, but I love those original b&w issues.
