While bombing Iran is bad for Trump’s poll numbers, starting a war and creating chaos is good for Trump as an authoritarian. Authoritarians exploit chaos to claim emergency powers, deploy the military domestically, and undermine free and fair elections.

Democratic leaders in Congress did not co-sponsor War Powers Resolutions introduced this week (in the Senate, by Sanders and seven Democrats; in the House, by Reps. Massie, Khanna, and other Democrats) that would have required congressional approval before attacking Iran.
AIPAC-Funded Dem Leaders Duck War Powers Resolution on Trump and Iran
Sen. Schumer and Rep. Jeffries are defending Israel's attack on Iran and have refrained from backing resolutions to prevent Trump from getting the U.S. military more involved.
