Ireland has a presidential election this Friday (largely ceremonial position), 2 candidates and the left-leaning independent one Catherine Connolly is well ahead in the polls.

Presumably because of this she is being hit hard this week by newspapers but now disturbingly also deepfake disinformation
We knew this would happen. Note how realistic the visuals and voices are.
This AI deepfake video of Catherine Connolly ‘withdrawing’ from presidential contest and that Friday’s poll is ‘cancelled’ is live and viral on Facebook tonight.
1000s watching, commenters believing it.

The opening performance of Cinderella by Birmingham Royal Ballet & music by Royal Ballet Sinfonia captivating. Fabulous costumes for cast of characters inc mice & dancing frogs. The ugly sisters stole the show every moment they were on stage. Definitely go see it if you can get tickets.

Beautiful bright sunny day. Perfect for a trip to Mottisfont and a walk along the river Test and out into the fields behind the Abbey. Followed by tea & cake of course.

Jimmy Carter was one of the last remaining decent politicians. He was a prime example that great leaders don’t need to rule with an iron fist to affect positive change. They can be warm and kind and still inspire the masses. He will be greatly missed. 🥺

Thames Water fined £18.2m for 'unjustified' £131.3m dividend to shareholders.

At the same time OFWAT allows Thames to hike customer bills by 35%.

Capital raised from customers who will own nothing, shareholders will get returns.

Privatisation is a scam.

Thames Water fined £18m over dividends but granted 35% bills hike by 2030
The ruling falls well short of a 59% bills hike requested by the troubled water company, as it tries to secure a bailout from investors.

Yesterday saw the launch of a 'London Loo Alliance' to beat the drum for more public toilets.

‘Public toilets are the hallmark of a civilised society,’ said one campaigner. ‘The Romans understood this, but our local authorities don’t seem to.’

New research from the IFS showing the closure of youth centres during the 2010s was shortsighted. For every £1 saved, the costs to affected users, crime victims and public spending in the police and the criminal justice system amount to £2.85

What a lovely bright sunny afternoon for our visit to Mottisfont on Wednesday. The house was closed while the staff prepared the house & gardens for a Nutcracker Christmas.

Don’t move near a pub if you don’t want the NOISE.
One of the best pubs in London struggling for survival because planning is stacked in favour of some powerful NIMBYs. Everything that’s wrong with Britain.

Also huge shout out to all who signed a petition, emailed an MP, held public meetings and handed out leaflets on cold station platforms. You’re all amazing!

Maybe if Lidl and HMV could just accept a little less profit (£43.6 million and £5.3 million, respectively), they wouldn't have to put up prices or cut jobs.
