#OTD 54 years ago, "Computer Space", the first commercial video game, launched.

It failed miserably.

It wasn’t until its makers left the company, founded Atari and released Pong the next year that the #gaming industry launched.
“Computer Space” launched the video game industry — then fell into a black hole
The game that launched today’s massive video game industry was not a roaring success when it debuted 52 years ago. The oft-told story of why turns out to be off the mark.

The DOJ has removed from its website a report showing that right-wing extremists have killed more Americans than any other domestic terrorist group.

Deleting the report doesn’t change the facts: claims that left-leaning Americans are more violent aren’t supported by the data.
Right-wing extremist violence is more frequent and more deadly than left-wing violence − what the data shows
Donald Trump and top administration officials confidently assert that left-wing political violence is a huge problem in the US. They’re wrong, say researchers who study extremism.

"What is this? A (separate, apartment-like) center for ants?"

A tropical plant avoids ant warfare by giving each species its own private space.

Cool #science about #ants:

This tropical plant builds isolated ‘apartments’ to prevent battles among the aggressive ant tenants it relies on for survival
Squamellaria plants grow special structures to host the ants they symbiotically rely on for nutrients. Distinct compartments help different ant colonies live peacefully side by side.

A study shows that those under 40, with less education, and disengaged from politics score highest on “need for chaos” measures.

Only two federal officials have ever been jailed for contempt of court – and that was back in 1951.

Now a judge is threatening contempt charges against Trump officials for defying an order on deportations.

Dear journalists: Please say this thing which should go without saying.
Should go without saying but the point of diversity in hiring is to find _better_-qualified candidates outside of stagnant social networks that don't reward merit, like the kind of network that would put an MTV personality with a marketing degree in charge of the Department of Transportation
