Real moment of ambiguity there, as car man screams YOU’RE FUCKING DISGUSTING. There were three adults at the lights: two cis women holding hands, one of whom had blue hair, and me. I’m afraid this is what will happen if you drive through my neighbourhood, car man.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

This is one of the first things I mention when I talk to anyone about transition. Anyone who thinks people are being rushed through and pushed into decisions they might later regret is absolutely incorrect. Even going privately was a whole, long ordeal. Not to mention incredibly expensive.

But I understand you to be describing an ideal healthcare model. That necessarily means describing something hypothetical. And I also think ‘shift money from unnecessary psychiatric control to money for more endocrinologist time’ is a fairly practical idea.
kaycrosby.bsky.social
If we’re designing ideal hypothetical healthcare systems I think I’m allowed to imagine that the NHS has trained and hired an adequate number of endocrinologists

This and the Badenoch position are obviously part of a continued push to ensure education is only for the already privileged.

Personally I assume fascism will kill me or worse, and ideas are really all I have as a temporary refuge. We have to find ways of keeping ideas alive, despite authority.

'The gleaming palace to the humanities – the single largest building project ever undertaken by the University of Oxford made possible by the largest philanthropic gift it has ever received – stands in stark contrast to the beleaguered, shrinking state of the rest of the sector.'
Oxford’s largest-ever project ‘shows what the humanities can do’
New building which brings together disciplines for the first time will also open its doors to the public to engage with big questions facing the world

If segregation means letting us speak to an endocrinologist, sure. If it means pointless psychiatric gatekeeping and telling GPs it’s ok to deny us routine care, then that’s where I disagree with you.

Absolutely, but it's the other way around. We trans people are considered inherently biased when dealing with our own issues, which must be considered from a "neutral" perspective. I've even seen people call out trans-friendly politicians because they had trans family, so their opinion didn't count.

This happens because transphobia is an institutional imperative and never considered a conflict of interest, or an impediment to providing trans people with care.

The status quo of transition care is trans people subjecting ourselves to the whims of bigots who want to humiliate and exploit us.

Disgustingly, the published 'research" in question was used to inflame discourse about a "rapid increase" in trans youth, harming the patients whose data it used!

Om du hører noen si at det har vært «skarp økning» i antallet ungdommer som søker kjønnsbekreftende behandling er det denne ulovlige forskningen de viser til. Vi kritiserte den i tidsskriftet i januar: link.springer.com/article/10.1...

I’ve been thinking about what poor use The Exorcist makes of Tubular Bells. I’m sure, for example, that they could’ve found somewhere to put the version of The Sailor’s Hornpipe that draws side two to a close.

Does anyone know if there’s an up to date list of UK universities with gold Athena Swan anywhere? The official Advance HE webpage appears to be using data from August, before the latest awards were made.

At Newcastle, management pointed out to the union that it had no bargaining rights above the national pay scale, which for us stops halfway up Reader, and then imposed a freeze to everyone above that point

Hear ye hear ye a message of hope and inspiration from our courageous leader in exile, Link. May all his loyal followers take heart!
I appreciate all the people showing love and support to me. I’m so grateful honestly. It means a lot. The ban isn’t that big of a deal for me. I think it was wrong and the explanation was bullshit. But that’s ok and I accept. Social media comes and goes. I’m grateful for all the connections I was able to make and all the people I get to be connected with off Bluesky. More importantly, the world needs more people to give a fuck. More people to give a fuck about Palestinians, more people to give a fuck about disabled folks, more people to give a fuck about our queer and trans siblings, more people to give a fuck about Black liberation. The world, and Bluesky, is full of bootlickers who will do anything to avoid doing anything to upset the status quo. These people are cowards groveling to those in power in hopes of protection. I just hope people continue to show love and care and kindness. Mutual aid is so important. Give when you can, boost when you can. We only survive this together.

A woman just asked me ‘Excuse me are you a goth?’ And I must admit I was basically stunlocked by her surprisingly difficult question. I wanted to interrogate what she understood the word to mean, but only got as far as er err er. So she then tried ‘are you LGBT?’ which was much easier and I said yes

There are now TWELVE (possibly 13...) peer-reviewed critiques of the Cass Review.

I have listed them all on my blog, now updated with links to all of them. Trying to keep it as up-to-date as possible.

For a fuller list, @notrightruth.bsky.social has them all here; ruthpearce.net/2024/04/16/w...

The thinking behind restricting access to treatment for trans people in order to prevent "regret", is fundamentally that people's health and well-being is only worth consideration if they're cis.

Otherwise, trans people wouldn't have to suffer to protect the 1% who regret the treatment.
A picture of a trolley problem, where on the side-track a long row of people are laying tied to the track, while a person is standing next to the forward track with nobody tied down to it.

Title: Trans healthcare trolley problem
Text reads: An unknown number of trans people have been tied to one of the train tracks, while a runaway trolley is set to roll down the empty track, saving all the trans people. However, that guy over there might voluntarily walk onto the train track. Do you pull the lever, sacrificing the trans people to protect that one guy from possibly making a mistake?
