A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

In "Hemispheric Blackface," Danielle Roper examines blackface performance and its relationship to 20th- & 21st-century nationalist fictions of mestizaje, creole nationalism, and other versions of postracialism in the Americas. Check out the intro for free! #PerformanceStudies

Cover of Hemispheric Blackface: Impersonation and Nationalist Fictions in the Americas by Danielle M. Roper. The cover features art by Leasho Johnson, Banshee #2. The artwork contains a black silhouette of a human figure, which appears to have its back to the viewer. A conglomerate of colorful, textured swirls covers the figure's neck and the lower half of its head. The swirls include blue, red, orange, yellow, light green, and pink streaks. Amidst the swirls, there is a golden shape that resembles a lyre.

Mahmoud Khalil should be at home with his pregnant wife.

Instead, he's been illegally abducted & had his constitutional right to free speech & due process stripped.

We're demanding his immediate release and we cannot allow this abuse of power to go unchecked. #FreeMahmoudKhalil

So very ashamed of the immigration policies of the US and Panama right now. Mass deportations, unlawful detentions, and rampant violations of human rights. Wish I could say I was surprised but a scapegoating of non-European migrants and their descendants has for too long united both countries.

O’Grady was a phenom. I feel lucky to have crossed paths with her earlier this year. May she Rest in Power while rocking those white gloves.

We are sorry to learn of the death of artist Lorraine O'Grady at the age of 90. We were proud to publish "Writing in Space, 1973–2019 in 2020," which collected her written work. Our thoughts are with her friends and family. https://buff.ly/41BOJML

Cover is white and features text on the left side and an image from O'Grady's "The Faces of Mlle Bourgeoise Noire, 1981/2019" on the right, in which O'Grady wears a tiara and a dress made of white gloves. The author's name is in black below the image, with the title in orange next to it. Below are the words "Edited and with an introduction by Aruna D′Souza."
