The much-criticised body that investigates suspected miscarriages of justice has commissioned an independent review of its casework. It’s thought to be the first time the Criminal Cases Review Commission has called in external inspectors since it started work.

And for now, the Supreme Court has signed off on such dubious practices without an explanation. Every American, including those who want tougher enforcement of our immigration laws, should demand that ICE does its job in a way that protects the rights of all Americans.

We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children.

Are you sure this is the point? People are unhappy about what is happening. They may be wrong about who is responsible but explaining that is not the judiciary doesn’t help.

As another ex government lawyer, I agree. It’s so frustrating that, despite sympathetic noises, the current government hasn’t legislated to put in place guardrails eg on Lords & other appointments, conduct and ethics, conflicts of interest etc. And hasn’t really tackled over/use of secondary legn
