An Appropriations Status Table, each year back to 1999. www.congress.gov/crs-appropri... 😎👍🏻 And (first time I did this) I got an AI machine to combine and summarize some of the data for me: Number of approps passed by the House before Oct 1.

The federal fiscal year ended on June 30 until it was moved to Sept 30 for FY1977... because if Congress had those three extra months to work out the details, meeting the deadline would be easy-peasy.

... To harass VZ/Maduro + what you said. I think the VZ-specific part is noteworthy b/c if Maduro were yada yada-yada replaced tomorrow by someone more to Trump's liking, Trump might suspend blowing up VZ boats, but it shouldn't be seen as him suspending plans/planning for what you outlined.

1) I agree with your read.
2) Afaik, VZ is not the top departure point for drugs from South & Central America coming to the US by sea, yet it tops Trump's list. So Trump deciding to focus on VZ – ie, Maduro – adds another element. The best explanation seems to be Trump is using it as a two-fer…

NOTE: Back during his campaign for 2016, Trump said he wanted to go after the families of ISIS fighters. And so as Trump has now grouped antifa with ISIS, it makes sense he'd want our domestic law enforcement to go after families of antifa members – ie, irrespective of involvement by the families.

I wish I could say I'd compiled some sort of grand list of ICE assaults on persons using cellphones or cameras, but there are just too many reports of such attacks for me to hope to keep up. My piece does link to the TRO in the Los Angeles Press Club case which aggregates some L.A. instances. /2

CBO fy2025 projections for deficit/spending/etc are out

Some issues make simple comparisons apples-to-oranges, so I'll do apples-to-apples & explain in the thread

Relative to pre-Trump projections:

-program spending ⬆️ $97 bn
-revenues ⬆️ $63 bn

Even when Biden first did what he did, and then the courts got involved, I've been wondering about that accounting. I even once hunted down some answers, but... in the end I decided to file it as a known unknown.

… to the House in June, but Speaker Johnson never called them up, because reasons.

Now, combining approps bills isn't at all new, but I do hope (😳 )that THAT part of this has not reached the level of being considered "regular order". Still, congrats to Cole on *A* conference.

The House passed and sent to the Senate the MILCON and Veterans Affairs approps bill, then – yada-yada yada – the Senate sent it back not just with "germane" amendments, but also with the Ag Approps and Leg Approps bills attached.

Cole's committee reported their versions of those bills…

Tom Cole calls it "regular order" because the House & Senate were going to CONFERENCE on an appropriations bill 🥳, which is all fine and good, but it does overlook a detail that makes it a bit less than "regular order" (as that term is used in this context):
